WELL YOU HAVE TO APPLY FOR MERCHANT NAVY ON THE BASIS OF YOUR 12TH SUBJECTS OR MARKS .THERE IS NO ENTRY FOR ECE STUDENTS IN MERCHANT NAVY

The courses and their details are as follows -

B.E Marine Engineering, Duration: 4 years; Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry,
Mathematics and English

B.S.C Nautical Science, Duration: 3 years, Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry,
Mathematics and English

After completing a course in Marine Engineering or Nautical Science, a fresher can be

Merchant Navy after B.Tech

The Merchant navy comprises Engineers, Radio Officers and Navigators with specialized

marine training. Placement can be through private companies or Government. Normally

students join merchant navy after 10+2, but you can also join after engineering by doing

one year Mariner Course.
There are four Government Training Institutes providing Pre-

Sea and Post-Sea training of international standard: Training Ship Chanakya, Navi

Mumbai, Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Kolkata, Marine Engineering &

Research Institute (MERI), Mumbai, Lal Bahadur Shastri College of advanced Maritime

Studies and Research, Mumbai. The nodal agency for the maritime studies in India is

Indian Institute of Maritime Studies http://iims.dgshipping.com/.

You can get more details on its website. Another option is applying directly to private

companies like Great Eastern Shipping, Essar Shipping, Pelican Marine, G.N.P. Cruise

Services, SESA Goa, Five Star Shipping, Barbers etc. They advertise regularly on

newspapers and also on their websites. You can also apply directly to companies

through the Careers section of their official websites. All the Best!

Re: Can I join Merchant Navy after B.Tech in ECE?

yes you can go for merchant navy but being a ELECTRONIC engineer why you want to join merchant navy.......better option in same field is why dont you try for indian navy...........think on it..........and make decision.....

Always Indian NAVY is for technical people and give respectful post than Merchant navy. For merchant navy we need just 12th class and Indian NAVY need gaduation this make difference and also pay scale also high for Indian NAVY.

To become a merchant navy officer, one needs to be atleast 10+2 or a diploma holder...but you must have scored more than 60% in PCM in 12th board...............so if you want to go for MERCHANT navy you can.........

There will be 2 year course for Diploma Holders and successful completion you will be join merchant in either of departments

Re: Can I join Merchant Navy after B.Tech in ECE?

Sure you can join the Merchant Navy stream. First of all you will need to appear for the entrance exam. On clearing it there will be a interview round too after which you need clear the physical fitness test. If selected you will need to undergo Pre - Sea training for 11 months. There will be test at the end of training period.
