Re: Can I join Merchant Navy after having 2 backlogs in BBA course? You can join Merchant Navy in the Engine department after doing BE Mechanical Engineering. For this you have to do a GME( Graduate Marine Engineer) course for an year and then get placed in the shipping company as a Trainee Marine Engineer. |

Dear you can definitely join the Merchant Navy You have two options- 1- You can join it after graduating in a commerce stream as a ship's administrative assistant. 2- You can join as a Deck or Engine Rating if one is 10th pass. Eligibility For Merchant Navy You can apply for courses of in Nautical science and Marine engineering in merchant navy. To apply for the above courses the education qualification required is 10+2 with physics, chemistry and mathematics Direct entry to Merchant Navy There is also a direct entry scheme to join the merchant navy. Candidates who have completed their 12th Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics can join as a Deck Cadet and Candidates who have degree in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Technology Engineering will join as a Engine Cadet/ Fifth Engineer/ Junior Engineer. Direct entry Deck Cadetswill have to go for a basic pre-sea training arranged by the recruiting company itself. Direct entry Engineering cadets have to do a Pre-sea course of 9 months duration in Marine Engineering conducted by the MERI. |

You can apply for courses of in Nautical science and Marine engineering in merchant navy. Either the candidate should have completed science in 12th standard along with Maths or must have pursued the subjects in graduation. Both Physics and Chemistry are a must. So if you have pursued 12th standard in these areas then you can apply. But it will be good if you complete your graduation as it will be need later stage in your life when you wish to change streams. |

Yes you can join the merchant navy course on the basis of your 12th class as A "DIRECT ENTRY" but that must be from the science stream.The eligibility criteria for the same is as under- Direct entry to Merchant Navy is also possible - students who have completed their 12th with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) are eligible to join as Deck Cadets and a student holding a bachelor's degree in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Technology Engineering could also join the Merchant navy as a Engine Cadet/ Fifth Engineer/ Junior Engineer. Direct entry Deck Cadets are required to undergo basic pre-sea training arranged by the recruiting company itself and the direct entry Engineering cadets are preferred to do a Pre-sea course of 9 months duration in Marine Engineering conducted by the MERI. |

Re: Can I join Merchant Navy after having 2 backlogs in BBA course? Hello Ravi, There are number of reasons that show you cannot join merchant navy from your current academic background. Though there is a chance if you had physics, chemistry ,maths in your higher secondary level. Basically,one can pursue merchant navy course in three ways: 1. B.Sc in Nautical Science, Eligibility: pass 12th with physics, chemistry, maths 2. B.E in Marine engineering, Eligibility: pass 12th with PCM, 3.Direct entry as a deck cadet, Eligibility: Same as before.. So if you had PCM as main subjects in 10(+2),theb only you can think of doing these courses. At this stage, after doing BBA ,if you join this field of merchant navy ,your graduation course will just go in vain. So it will be better for you to look for career in the commerce field where you actually belong. Best of luck! |
