Re: List of total universities which are approved by UGC? Hi friend, UGC stands for University Grants Commission. UGC is the government body for approving colleges in India. They consider infrastructure and faculty of the colleges. There are more than 200 universities approved by UGC. Also there are more than 400 colleges approved by UGC.  UGC is the governing body which approves many colleges in India, if they dont approve, then it is considered not good, both infrastructure and faculty wise. >> It is established in November 1956 formally as a statutory body of the Government of India through an Act of Parliament for the coordination and maintaining standards for college throughout India region wise.
