To become an IPS(Indian Police Service) officer one has to apply, appear and crack Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC every year. The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate with good Physical Fitness. For OBC(Other Backward Class) category candidate the age limit for IPS, Civil Service Exam is from 21 to 33 years. Apart from this there is no special requirement for OBC candidate in the Examination as all other eligibility for OBC is same as General candidate. Eligibility criteria for I.P.S. :- --Candidate must be 21 years - 30 years of the age at the time of appearing for Civil Service Examination. --Upper Age limits is relaxed For these categories: 3 years for O.B.C. candidates.So, for O.B.C.- 21-33 years 5 years for SC/ST candidates.So, for SC/ST- 21-35 years Education qualification : - You must possess a graduate degree from any recognized university. Those candidates who are in the final year of a degree course can also Eligible. Candidates who have passed their graduation from technical courses are also eligible. Only passing mark in graduation is needed. Candidates must not have any pending backlogs. You must be citizen of India. Every general candidates are eligible to the write the examination for 4 times and 7 times in case of 7 times and there is no limit for sc/st candidates . |

Hello Friend, IPS (Indian Police Service or Indian Postal Service) examinations are conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). Eligibility criteria for UPSC IPS exam are as follows: - 1. Age - 21 Years to 30 Years for General candidates, 21 Years to 33 Years for OBC candidates and 21 Years to 35 Years for SC / ST candidates. 2. Pass graduation / Bachelor’s degree in any subject or in any engineering stream or equivqlent from a recognised institute / university. 3. UPSC-IPS Age Limit ->A candidate must have attained 21 years and not be over 30 years on August 1 of the year of examination. ->The upper age limit is relaxed in specific cases as mentioned below: a. upto a maximum of 5 years if the candidate belongs to SC/ST. b. upto a maximum of 3 years if the candidate belongs to Other Backward Classes. c. upto a maximum of 5 years if the candidate had been domiciled in Jammu & Kashmir during the period between January 1, 1980 and December 31, 1989. d. upto a maximum of 3 years in the case of Defence Services personnel disabled during hostilities with foreign countries or in a disturbed area and consequently released. e. upto a maximum of 5 years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs / SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service as on August 1 of the year of examination and have been released: ->on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from August 1 of the year of examination) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency ->on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service, or on invalidment. f. upto a maximum of 5 years in the case of ECOs / SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment (5 years Military Service) as on August 1 of the year of examination and whose assignment has been extended beyond 5 years. Such candidates will have to provide a certificate from the Ministry of Defence stating that they can apply for civil employment and they will be released on a notice of 3 months, upon selection, from the date of receipt of offer of appointment. g. upto a maximum of 10 years in the case of blind, deaf-mute and orthopaedically handicapped candidates. The basic age limit for General Category is that a candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years. The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable:- OBC Candidates:-upto a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates. Hello friend, The minimum eligible age for candidates belonging to any category is 21 years and the maximum age limit for the candidates belonging to OBC is 33 years. The educational qualification required to be eligible for the civil service exam is a bachelors degree.
