Re: How should I prepare for IAS if I am a 8th class student? It is good that you have decided upon what you want to be in the future in the very early stages of your career. This is required for each and every candidate. But many of the candidates fail at this level only without setting a proper goal. However, you should have completed your Graduation to apply for Civil Services Exam through which you will be placed in any of the civil services like Indian Administrative Service Indian Police Service Indian Foreign Service etc. First select one subject out of the subjects which you perform well at your academics and where you are having more interest. Try to gain in depth subject knowledge on various concepts of that subject. Not only that, if at all any advanced features and upcoming concepts in that subject, try to get knowledge on those areas also. Make sure that whatever subject you have selected, that should be there in the list of optional subjects for civil services exam. So that you can opt for this optional subject while applying for this exam. Try to inculcate the habit of -Hard working nature -Planning the things -Attentive listening etc. You should be having brilliant memory power to be placed in IAS. So try to be good enough in that. Start preparation for civil services exam from the very beginning of your Graduation. Then you can easily crack this exam. Wish you all the best. |

Dear Friend, Its really very pleasing that you have decided what to do in future but as far as i am concerned , i think its a bit early for you to start concentrating towards the Civil services Exam right from 8th standard. This is because the minimum educational qualification required for Civil Services Exam is graduation in any stream from any recognized college/university. Since you are in 8th standard which means you have to wait for another 7 years to set your self eligible for the Civil Services Exam by completing graduation in these 7 years. The Civil Services Exam is considered as one of the toughest exams conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission. This is because this exam has no syllabus and the questions can be asked from any standard. That`s the reason that only 200-300 candidates get selected out of more than 10 lac candidates who gave the exam every year. Through passing the Civil Services Exam , you can join any of the below mentioned services as per your rank : ** Indian Administrative Services ** Indian Police Services ** Indian Economic Services ** Indian Foreign Services The Eligibility Criteria Required for the Civil Services Exam are : ** The candidate must have Indian Nationality. ** The Age Limit : ** Number Of Attempts : a) For General Candidates : 4 b) For OBC Candidates : 7 c) For SC/ST Candidates : No Limit This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Since you are in the starting stage just prepare for the prelims for this you need to go through all the NCERT books. Right now you should focus on your studies and first complete 10th standard and take your favorite subjects in Class 11th. One of the biggest mistake that students who want to pursue Indian Administrative Service makes is that they take a very casual approach towards the subjects to be selected in Class 11th. Please do not make that mistake. Choose the subjects carefully. You should have a good backup in case you fail to make the cut for Indian Administrative Service. Choose subjects in which you see good future. Another thing that you can do right now is start focusing on your English. This of course only if you are not good in it. You should have good command over the English language to clear the entrance exams for Indian Administrative Service. You should only give big push to the preparation for Indian Administrative Service during the final year of graduation or possibly after completing graduation. Give yourself 8 to 10 months to prepare for the Civil Services Examination. Get the books of 12th standard by NCERT and study them. Download question papers from internet and solve them. You should also watch news and read newspaper to keep yourself updated. IAS Eligibility 1. Only Indian national is allowed to appear. 2. You should have a graduation degree. 3. Passing marks are sufficient enough. 4. Must be at least 21 years old to apply for exam. 5. The upper age limit is 30 years for General. 6. 3 years relaxation for OBC is upper age limit. 7. The relaxation is 5 years for SC/ST. 8. There are no physical requirements for IAS. 9. General candidate is only given 4 attempts to clear the exam. 10. OBC has 7 attempts to clear Civil Services Examination. 11. No such limit for SC and ST. Selection Process 1. Preliminary Exam 2. Main Exam 3. Personal Interview |

Concentrate on your studies and try to get good marks in school. NCERT books are recommended for IAS preparation. So if you are in school then whatever you are studying is important. General studies subject in most important in IAS examination. The question usually are asked from General Science, Geography, Social Science, Maths, Reasoning etc. Hence concentrate on these topics for IAS preparation. You must buy some good books ans study according to the syllabus of IAS. Some good books for IAS preparation: -History books of Classes XI and XII – NCERT -Freedom Struggle (NET) – Bipin Chandra -World Geography – including Indian Geography Good books -Principles of Geography (Class XII-Part I, II) -General Geography of India (Class XII) Part I – NCERT -Geography of India – Resources and Regional Development Part II (Class XII) – NCERT -Physical Geography – Leong Atlas -Introduction to Indian Constitution – D.D. Basu -Evolution of Indian Economy – NCERT -Indian Economy – Dutt and Sundharam. -Indian Economy – Mishra and Puri -NCERT books on Science. -Science and Technology supplements in the Newspapers and magazines. You can concentrate on above books at present and after passing 10+2 you can join some good coaching class along with the Graduation. |
