Indian Army is one of the defence force of India and to join in this force you need to apply for the respected entrance exam based on the qualification of yours. The eligibility which you need to satisfy include:
  • Nationality
  • Age limit
  • Educational qualification
  • Physical standard

The possible entrance exam with a minimum eligibility to join in Indian army is NDA exam. This exam is conducted by UPSC and is held every year twice as NDA I and NDA II. The criteria's needed are:

-> The nationality standard needed is citizenship in India

-> Age limit needed is 16 1/2- 19 1/2 years.

-> Martial status needed is unmarried male candidate.

-> Educational qualification needed for joining in Indian army is candidate should have completed +2 from a recognized school board with physics and mathematics as subjects,

-> Candidate need to be physically fit.

There are many exam which is conducted for Indian Army for the respective post , at the time of requirement & There are certain eligibility criteria which is used to be followed :



T.G.C (Education)
Age - 23 - 27 Years
Qualifications - MA/MSc in 1st or 2nd division

U.E.S
Age - 18-24 Years
Qualifications - The Final year Student of Engineering Degree Course

N.C.C Special (Men & Women)
Age - 19-25 Years
Qualifications - Graduate 50% aggregate "A" or "B" grade in N.C.C "C" certificate

Short Service Commission
(Tech Men & Women)
Age - 19-27 Years
Qualifications - BE /B.Tech stream of Engineering/B.Arch, M.S.C Computer

Indian Military Academy (Non Tech)
Age - 19-24 Years
Qualifications - Graduate

National Defence Academy
Age - 16½-19½ Years
Qualifications - 10+2

It is good to see your interest towards the Indian army. For joing the Indian army or any other Indian forces one must have to appear in the following entrance exam(only one):-

1. NDA.
2.CDS

NDA exam is conducted by the Upsc twice in a year for the following three wings:-

1. Indian Air force.
2. Indian Army.
3. Indian Navy.


The basic eligibility criteria for appearing in the NDA entrance exam is to have a +2 course from a recognised board with good percentile.Also the appearing aspirant's age must lie in between 16.5 years to 19 years to be eligible for this exam.


CDS is also an entrance examination which is conducted by the Upsc every year for the following academics:-

1. Officer training academy.
2. Indian Naval Academy.
3.Indian Army academy.
4. Indian air force academy.


The basic eligibility criteria for this exam is to have a bachelor degree in any stream from a recognised university with good percentile for the Army academy. Also the appearing aspirant's age must be in between 19 years to 24 years for the Army academy to be eligible completly for this exam.

There are several entry schemes for getting into Indian army at different academic level.

1. At 10+2 level, you can apply for the NDA/NA entrance exams.

Age limit is 16.5-19.5 years. Only unmarried male candidates can apply.

2. One another entry scheme is Technical Entry scheme. In which candidates are shortlisted on the basis of PCM percentage for direct SSB.

3. At bachelor's degree level it is Combined defense services. For this exam, both unmarried male and female candidates can apply. The age limit is 19-25 years.

Hi Dear
If you apply for the Indian Army that you have to appear NDA exam which is conducted by UPSC .
Eligibility Criteria:- Qualification:-You must have completed +2 with minimum 50% marks.
Age Limit:-Age should be 16.5 to 19 years.
Height required:- Height should be 157 cm .
Physical Fitness:-You should have physically fit.
Status:-You should have unmarried .

According your query ,
Educational qualification needed for applying the Indian Army is 10+2/intermediate, graduates.

Minimum height is 157.7 cm
Age criteria to apply for various exams is given below
1. For Indian Army Acadamy is 19-24 years
2. For Officer Training Academy 19-23 years.
3. For Naval Academy 19-22 years
4. Air Force Academy 19- 25 years

Indian Army recruitment exam is conducted by UPSC through CDS exam.

CDS stands for Combined Defence Service exam.

Eligibility criteria:-

Indian naval academy: You should have completed engineering graduation or B.Sc with physics, mathematics subjects from a recognized university.

Indian Air force academy: You should have completed engineering graduation or B.Sc with physics, mathematics from a recognized university.

Indian Military academy: You should have completed graduation in any stream from a recognized university.

Officers Training Academy: You should have completed graduation in any stream from a recognized university.

Age Criteria:-

Indian Military Academy: - 19 to 24 years
Air Force Academy: - 19 to 23 years
Naval Academy: - 19 to 22 years
Officer's Training Academy: - 19 to25 years

Physical criteria for CDS exam:-

Height and Weight




Eye sight 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye.

Blood pressure (High) Age 23 – 123, age 24 – 124, age 25 –122, age 28 – 124, age 30 –125, age 32 – 126, age 34 – 127.

Ear-
Good listening & normal ear cavity. 1000 to 4000 frequency hearing impairment should not be more than 30 decibels.

Physical Standards for Indian Army :

<> Minimum height for Male : 157.5 cms

For Female : 152 cms

<> No particular restriction on weight but yes based on Indian Army you have to fulfill the required weight criteria as well.

<> It depends on height requirement. In addition to all these you need to satisfy Chest measurements and also eye vision.

To apply for Indian Army there will be two options available based on the educational qualification.

<> Through Intermediate --- NDA Examination

<> Graduation --- CDS Examination.

One can join Indian Army through NDA exam.

UPSC conducts this exam twice a year with the name NDA I and NDA II .

NDA stands for National Defense Academy.It has three wings;

Indian Military Academy.

Indian Naval Academy.

Indian Air Force Academy.

Eligibility criteria for NDA exam :-

Nationality : Indian.

Age limit :16.5 years to 19 years.

Marital Status : Unmarried male candidate only.

Edu. qualification : 10+2 for Indian Military Academy and 10+2 with Physics,Chemistry and Mathematics for Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy.

Selection process :

Written examination

Personal interview by SSB.

Physical requirements :

Height : Must not be less than 157.5 cms.

Weight : should be in proportionate with height.

Chest: Must not be less than 81 cms with a minimum expansion of 5 cms.

Eye Sight : 6/6 in both eyes .
