Civil Services examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. There were so many changes made in the 2015 Civil Services notification like:

>>The second paper of Preliminary exam that is called Civil Service Aptitude Test made qualifying. Candidates from all streams just only needs to score 33%.

>>The upper age limit for general category candidates was increased to 32 years on 1st August of year of examination.

So, you will be 31 years and two months and hence you can apply for the Civil Services exam 2016.

Yes you are eligible to sit for the civil service examination next year because a slight change in the upper age limit of different category candidates and the number of times a candidate can sit for the civil service exam has been changed. The new rule says that the upper age limit of general category is going to be 32 now instead of 30. So that makes you perfectly eligible to sit for civil service exam 2016.

UPSC conducts several examination every year out of which three of the most popular examinations are IAS, IFS and IPS exam. Together they are known as the civil service exam. Generally the exam takes place in the month of August every year.

There are three rounds that needs to be cleared - Preliminary exam, Main exam and Personality test or Interview.

Eligibility Criteria at a glance:-
  • You should possess a degree from any of Indian universities or an equivalent qualification from any recognized university.
  • Your age has to be between 21-32 years.
Upper age limit of other categories:
  • SC/ST: 37 years
  • OBC: 35 years
  • Physically disabled: 42 years
Number of attempts:-
  • General category: 6
  • OBC category: 9
  • SC/SC category: Unlimited

The minimum and maximum age limits required to appear in UPSC 2016 Civil Services examination is 21 to 30 years. For reserved category candidates, there is an age relaxation of 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates to appear in UPSC Civil Services examinations. Since, you have crossed the maximum age limit of 30 years, being a general category candidate, you are not eligible to appear in UPSC 2016 Civil Services examination.

Civil Services exam is conducted by the UPSC every year for IAS, IPS etc.

Minimum age limit on 01st August of year of exam is 21 years for all category candidates.

Upper age limit on 01st August of year of exam is 32 years for general candidates and relaxation of three years to OBC and five years to SC/ST candidates.

So being a general category candidate, you have one attempt left. You can give 2016 exam.
