Available subjects in Arts Stream:

History

Geography

Political Science

Public Administration

Sociology

Economics

Poetry

Psychology

Now you should know that which subject may be good and useful for you in preparation so i would like to inform you that - History, Geography, Political Science, and Economics are the subjects that are necessary for both sections of examinations because these subjects covers more than 50% part of the paper I in Preliminary examination.

There is no boundation of subject you can choose any of the subject as per your desire. You can pursue in Arts, Science, Commerce and many more.
You can choose some of the subjects like:-
History
Political Science
Geography
English
Physics
Chemistry
Maths
Biology
Economics
Accounts
Home Science
Hindi
Finance
Psychology
Sociology
Etc.

IPS stands for Indian Police Services. To become an IPS officer, you must have to appear in Civil Services (Indian Police Services) Examination which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission. Candidates who have completed Graduation course in any discipline from a Government recognised university are eligible to appear in IPS examination.

There is no need to pursue Graduation course in any particular stream to become an IPS officer. You can opt for any stream which you are interested for pursuing Graduation course.

Eligibility criteria required to appear in IPS examination is mentioned below :-

=> You must be an Indian Citizen.

=> You must have obtained Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline from a Government recognised university.

=> You must must have attained the minimum age of 21 years and must not have attained the maximum age of 32 years.

There is an Upper age relaxation of 3 years for OBC category candidates and 5 years for SC/ST category candidates to be eligible to appear in IPS examination.

Selection Procedure :-
>> Preliminary Examination
>> Main Examination
>> Interview

Number of Attempts :-
>> General :- 6
>> OBC :- 9
>> SC/ST :- No Limit (Up to maximum age limit)

The minimum qualification required to become IPS officer and to appear in civil services exam is graduation in any discipline from recognised University and as you are interested to pursue degree in Arts stream hence you should definitely opt for Bachelor in Arts that is simple and side by side you can prepare yourself for civil services exam to become IPS officer. You can also join a good coaching institute for preparation of this exam.

You can take up any course in arts side or in any other branch of study also in which you have interest you can take up in that course in order to become IPS officer in future.

IPS is the Indian Police Services examination which is generally conducted after the completion of the Graduation course of study only.This examination is generally appeared after the completion of the graduation in any department of study.

Minimum Requirements which are needed to appear for the IPS examination are.
  1. Should have attained minimum age of 21 years and should not exceed 30 years of age limit
  2. Should have completed graduation or bachelors of study in any of the department of study
  3. Should have to belong to the Citizen of India only.
  4. Should not have any backlogs in your graduation

These are the minimum requirements for the IPS selections recruitment which is conducted by the UPSC board.

So, you can take up any course in your graduation to appear for the IPS selections.

Once you complete your 12th in any discipline and you're interested for higher course in Arts stream then I would like to suggest you to opt for Bachelor of Arts 3 year degree course in order to become IPS. After completion of Bachelor of Arts you will have to qualify the Civil Service exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission every year. Age limit should be in between 21 to 32 years and relaxation in upper limit given to reserved category.
