To become an Officer in the Indian army you have to Qualify the NDA ( National Defence Academy Examination) after class 12th and in class 12th it will be beneficial for you if you choose science after your 10th (Physics, chemistry, Maths).

You can also apply for CDS and CAPF after Graduation to become an Officer in the Defence.

After 10th, you will have to pass 12th standard from any stream i.e. Science or Commerce to be eligible for applying Army wing of NDA Exam.

But if you wish to apply for Navy or Air Force wing of NDA Exam, you must choose Physics and Mathematics in 12th standard to apply for it.

But if you wish to join Army after graduation, then you can choose any stream after 10th to complete your Intermediate course. Finally, you can apply for Army wing through CDS Exam which requires only graduation from the candidate.

Re: Which group to choose after 10th to become an Army Officer?

To become army officer in future, you have to opt for either science or commerce stream in your 11th standard and after passing your 12th standard you have to appear in the NDA examination that is conducted by UPSC twice in a year in the month of April and September.
And if by a chance you will not be able to clarify the entrance test then you can complete your graduation in science or commerce stream and after that you can appear in CDS examination to join Army.

No, you are not eligible for recruitment as an officer in Indian Army after 10th. To become an officer in Indian Army candidates have to appear and qualify in NDA entrance examination.

The examination is conducted by UPSC twice in a year. The minimum required qualification to appear in examination is that candidate must have passed or pursuing in 12th std. The age limit to appear in examination is 16.5-19.5 years.

The examination is conducted in two stages as Written and SSB. It is mandatory to qualify in all stages of examination for final selection.

Only male candidates are eligible to appear in examination. For detail information about the examination visit at www.upsc.gov.in.
