Hi dear..

Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM) is a periodic motion where Restoring force (F) is directly proportional to the displacement.

Consider an example, like if we have a block attached to wall through spring. If we pull the block, the spring expands and now it has a restoring force (F) which is equal and opposite to the force applied by us (as it wants to come in natural position) . Now, if we push it towards the wall, a restoring force is again set up but this time the spring wants to expand to come in it's natural position

Mathematically this is given as

F= -kx

F => Restoring force
k => Spring Constant
x => Displacement of the block given by us.

Here (-) sign indicates that the restoring force is in opposite direction.

~~> NOTE :- The restoring force is always equal and opposite to the force applied.

It is used in various applications like Oscillation of Pendulum, a free mass body hanging in space with a spring form a rigid support etc.

It is of great use which you will explore as you study this in detail in Higher Studies

All the best !!
