As far as the compulsion of Bengali language in academics is concerned then the answer to your query is that no Bengali is not required in academic degree for appearing in the WBCS (West Bengal Civil Services) examination. But, as after qualifying WBCS you will be posted in Bengal where the primary language is Bengali, you will be required to qualify a departmental Bengali language examination within a stipulated time after your selection so that you are able to read, write and speak Bengali in proper way so that language does not become a hindrance in your official works. |

The applicant must have good health and character and suitability in all respects for appointment to Government service. 3. The applicant should be able to read, write and speak in Bengali (Candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali are excluded). |

Those candidates whose date of birth lies between the 1st January 2000 & the 1st January 2001 [i.e. whose age is between 20 & 21 years as on 01.01. 2020] may apply for Group B only. Age, as* *recorded* *only* *in* *the* *Madhyamik* *or* *equivalent* *certificate, will be accepted. |

A candidate who doesn't know Bengali may clear the mains examination but at the time of interview his/her knowledge in Bengali will be tested. WBCS is the exam to select administrative officer in West Bengal. You must have citizenship of India. Age criteria:- For General - 21 to 32 years Fer OBC - 21 to 35 years For SC/ST - 21 to 37 years. Selection procedure:- Preliminary Test Mains Exam Personal Interview. |

The first paper must be written in English; the second paper is entirely up to you. If you don't know Bengali well enough, you don't have to choose it as your language. |

The first paper is in English, while the second one is completely up to you. You do not need to select the Bengali language if you do not have enough knowledge of this language. |
