For astronuat a college degree is necessity and of course the grades in too either it is engineering, biological or physical sciencd or mathematics.
If you do M.S it is well and good.

After college you need 3 years of related experience in your field.

after degree and some experience its time to apply for astronauts positions.NASA recieces an averge of 4015 application to fill around 20 slots for every 2 years.and they call around 118 applicants from total for ASB interview based on
experience
potentioal
motivation
ability to function as team
and communication skill.

If applicant intersted in pilot or commandor position then instead of mission specialist then you have to go for at least 1000 hours of flight time in commant of a jet aircraft. These type of training you have to face and need to do in future that why many Many applicants do not meet medical standards while others withdraw after learning all that the job entails. After all these incidents Astronaut Selection Board chooses final candidates and pass to NASA and their decision will be final.
Be prepare physically and Mentally as this not the 9-5 job which one expect but a 24 to 24 hr full dedication........

when we think about a job you should aim high

so as in case of astronaut you should try in NASA itself.

Basic requirements for an Astronaut Pilot include the following:

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering, biological science, physical science, or mathematics. An advanced degree is desirable. Quality of academic preparation is important.

2. At least 1,000 hours pilot-in-command time in jet aircraft. Flight test experience is highly desirable.

3. Ability to pass a NASA space physical which is similar to a military or civilian flight physical and includes the following specific standards:

Distant visual acuity: 20/100 or better uncorrected, correctable to 20/20 each eye.
Blood pressure: 140/90 measured in a sitting position.
Height between 62 and 75 inches.

so do well

First off, astronauts are the cream of the crop. If you even hope to be one, start using proper English when you write.

Second, becoming an astronaut is not simply about having a degree in a related field. Mission specialists are usually the only ones who need advanced degrees, and it depends on the needs of a particular mission. There are also pilots, mission commanders, etc that perform other duties on the spacecraft.

Third, astronauts are extremely self-sufficient. So, future astronauts are not usually people who need to go on Yahoo! Answers to ask how to become one in broken sentences and 6th grader shorthand. Go to NASA's website, read about the astronaut corps, and learn all you can about it. There is plenty of information there about requirements, how to become and astronaut, how to apply, etc.

hi dear,
After u complete your B.Sc. Maths, you have to get any one of the below mentioned degree from IISC or IIT.

Phd (astrophysics)
Phd (geophysics)
Phd (metapysics)

After doing this degree you have to appear for the entrance test conducted by NASA and also ISRO. and in order to clear ISRO you have to clear joint entrance exam conducted by IITs.

All the best for your future

Its a dream of students to join the NASA and work as astronaut there. But to become an astronaut you should posses some quality which should be different from others.

There are three types of astronauts in the U.S. space program:

Commander/pilot
Mission specialist
Payload specialist

Eligibility ::

You should have bachelor's degree in engineering, biological sciences,
physical sciences, mathematics from a recognized college.

Three years of related experience - A master's degree equals one year
of experience, and a doctorate equals three years.
