Can I apply for UPSC exams being an IT engineer?


Hello sir/madam,

I am a information technology engineer(batch 2008-09).
I want to know whether I can apply for UPSC exams?
As every where it is mentioned about the civil, mechanical,electrical n EXTC engineers...
Then what about IT engineers?
n IF we can apply Then do tell me the syllabus and procedure of applying.
Will be pleased after having your reply.

There is no such restriction for an IT engineer to apply for upsc. The eligibility is that you must have completed atleast a degree before applying for upsc, so need not worry over the things because upsc is purely a knowledge based exams for service orientation so undoubtedly can apply for it.

You can apply for upsc exams.However it depends on the requirements of job itself.

However, you cannot apply for IES,MES and some other fields where b.tech (IT) engineers are not required.

Means you are eligible for entrance where there is not mentioned that only mechanical,civil etc are eligible.

you are eligible for exam like Indian civil services etc.

yes you can appear in UPSC exams, their is no such restrictions regarding branch ,if you are a graduate so you can appear in it.

all that you need to write UPSC exams is a degree(UG/PG).u can find the announcements in all newspapers.

you can apply for UPSC exams because the criteria for writing UPSC are:

1)A degree from a recognised university or equivalent

2)21-30 years as on 1.8.2010

yes, you can ceertainly apply for the UPSC exams and regarding the sylllabus and all i dont think there is any syllabus for it field so you may have to choose different subjects and for more details do visit the UPSC official website which is www.upsc.nic.in and you can get the exact details hope you are satisfied by the answer and even i am glad to help so for more details do write to me again... bye all the best

you can fill up the form of U P S C and you are eligible for this,
only problem is that there is no any optional paper for computer science,
in this case you have to chose other subjects,

Yes you can surely eligible for the UPSC exams.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is a constitutional body in India authorized to conduct examinations for appointment to the various Civil Services of India. It conducts
lots of examination such as CDS,for IES and lots more.

CDS,IAS,SCRA & a lot.

you are eligible for UPSC exam. Because minimum

qualification is graduation from any stream.But

you select the paper for examination from the

1.if you are applying for any engineer posts then there are the some selective

paper from your department,like IES

2.if you are applying for any graduate level exam then you have to choose non

departmental paper.

YES ,you can appear in UPSC exam.. but you have to give the exam on electronics subjects.. there is no such different syllabus for IT or Computers sc..

so, don't worry , you are eligible for UPSC,but you have to complete your graduation first..

hi,
there is nothing that you cant handle the upsc exam being an engineer..there are upsc exams for engineering feild.most of the part of the exam has english verbal,grammar,passage reading sections.and also G.K questions.and also questions on indian constitution...in engineering exams the papers will mainly dealt with your oen stream...alll the best

Yes, As an IT engineer, you can apply for the UPSC exams. But then again, the UPSC conducts exams in various fields an you are not eligible for all the fields.
For example the Engineering Service exam, though is for engineering graduates, but it is not for IT engineers.

So you can apply for the CSAT or the Civil Service exam to become and IAS or IPS, however not for all the exams.

So tell me the area of your interest in UPSC so that i can help you out on this.

For UPSC exam you should have degree from recognized university.


Educational Qualifications FOr UPSC civil services exam:
Bachelor’s degree of a recognized university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
