Default Re: Can a candidate from B.Tech course is eligible to apply for the position of DCP?

DCP stands for Deputy Commissioner of Police.On the basis of experience and track record, one gets promoted to the higher cadre ranks such as DCP,ACP etc. DCP is the police officer who is the head of the police forces of a district .Usually after 10-13 years of service, an IPS officer gets promoted to the rank of DCP .

There is no direct recruitment available for the post of DCP. The post of DCP is filled by IPS officers. IPS officers get DCP rank through promotion. To become an IPS officer,one has to write Civil Services Exam conducted by UPSC every year.

UPSC conducts civil services exam to make recruitment in Indian Police Services.

The eligibility criteria for Civil Services Exam are following:-

-The candidate must be a citizen of India.

-The candidate should have completed graduation in any discipline from recognized college or university with any percentage.

-The candidate age should be in between 21 years to 30 years for general category.Age is relaxed for OBC by 3 years and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

-The selection procedure consists of three stages,namely;

* Preliminary Examination (Objective Type),

* Mains Examination (Conventional Type),

* Personal Interview & Group Discussion.
