Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Sciences, which is also called as BAMS is one of the popular courses in India mainly due to the fact that this form of medicine is an ancient medicine that found its origin in India. The course enables the students to learn the different types of treatment being used in Ayurvedic form of medicine.

The aforesaid institutions are approved by Central Council for Indian Medicine to confer BAMS degree course on candidates.

Duration of BAMS Course & Eligibility for Admission:

Normally, the duration of BAMS course in Government College is five-and-half years, which includes one-year internship as well. For getting admission to the BAMS course, candidates must have completed their higher secondary examination in science stream.

Admission Procedure:

Admission to the BAMS course is done based on the performance of the students in the Combined Premedical Test and on the basis of the marks secured by the students in the qualifying examination.

Higher studies after BAMS:

On successful completion of BAMS course, candidates can take up MD or Doctor of Medicine and they can also take up Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate course in Ayurvedic Physician course. Further, on completion of their MD, they can take up Ph. D course.

Career Prospects after BAMS:

There is a wide range of scope for BAMS graduates and they can find placement opportunities in the following industries:

In pharma industry, where some companies are engaged in production of ayurvedic medicines.

In health sector as duty doctors either in public sector or private sector hospitals.

They can also practice as private medical practitioner by starting their own clinic, but they should get approval from the respective medical council for practicing as private medical practitioners.

In educational sector, for offering education to the students doing their diploma or degree course in Ayurvedic Medicine.

In the industry of clinical trials since some companies, recruit BAMS degree holders as investigators for their clinical trials.

These professionals are also paid well in many private and government-run Ayurvedic hospitals.

    B.A.M.S means Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery not Medical Sciences. Please regret it. don’t confuse. It is a and half year full time medical degree course. Ayurveda the worlds first medical science and all other systems are alternative systems.
