Cachar is an administrative district in the state of Assam and the district has the city of Silchar as its headquarters. The official language of the district is Bengali and the district is spread over an area of 3786 km2. In addition to Bengali people, the district acts as the home for people from other communities like Khasi, Kuki and Mizo with minority strength.

Medical College:

Silchar Medical College & Hospital, Silchar came into existence in the year 1968 and the college was previously affiliated to the Guwahati and then with Assam University and at present it is offering medical education with affiliation from the Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences located in Guwahati. The college is approved by the medical council of India to admit 100 students per year for the MBBS Course. The college also offers MD and MS in the following subjects:

Arts, Science & Commerce Colleges:

Cachar College, Silchar came into existence in the year 1960 and the college offers intermediate, UG and career-oriented courses with affiliation from the Assam University, Silchar. The college offers UG courses in arts, science and commerce streams of education.

Gurucharan College, Silchar is popularly called as G.C. College and this college came into existence in the year 1935. This college is also affiliated to the Assam University and it offers degree courses, PG courses and diploma and certificate courses in different subjects under the faculty of arts, science and commerce. The college also offers higher secondary course in these disciplines.

Haflong Government College, Haflong, North Cachar is also affiliated to the Assam University offering education under arts, science and commerce faculties under the UG level.

Women’s College, Silchar came into existence in the year 1963 and the college offers higher secondary course in arts & commerce stream and three-year degree course in arts stream of education. The college also offers several other self-financing courses as diploma or certificate courses.
