Chitrakoot District is a district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and the district has the city of Chitrakoot as its headquarters. The district is spread over an area of 3205 km2 and it has a population of more than 7 lakh people according to a census conducted in the year 2001. Out of the 71 districts in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Chitrakoot is the second least populous district next to  Mahoba district.

On 6th of May 1997, a new district was formed out of the erstwhile Banda District comprising it Mau and Karwi tehsils. Initially, the district was named as Chhatrapati Shahuji Nagar District and later in the year 1998 on the 4th of September, it was renamed as Chitrakoot District. The district of Chitrakoot is divided into blocks like Chitrakoot Dham Karvi, Pahari, Manikpur, Ram Nagar and Mau. The district of Chitrakoot is bounded by the Fatehpur District, Allahabad District, Banda District and Satna District of the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Inter Colleges:

Chitrakoot Inter College is a prominent educational institution in the district of Chitrakoot and this college offers intermediate course in the faculties of arts, science and commerce with affiliation from the Bundlekhand University. All other inter colleges are also offering intermediate courses in the faculties of arts, science and commerce and some of the colleges were established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh exclusively for women with a view to encourage women education in the district of Chitrakoot.
