The District of Kullu is located in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh and it stretches frm the Rohtang Pass in the North and the Village of Rampur in the South. The district has the largest valley called Kullu Valley, which is popularly known as Valley of Gods. In the central part of the valley there is a town called Kullu that is on the banks of the River Beas. Another, popular valley in the district is the Lug Valley, which is highly popular for timber and timber has been extracted for more than 150 years from this area.

The headquarters of the district is the Kully City and the district is spread over an area of 5503 square meters. The district was formed in the year 1963 and the district has four subdivions, four tehsils, two sub-tehsils, five blocks, four towns, 172 villages and 13 police stations.

Education in Kullu District:

When it comes to education in the district of Kullu, it has 376 Anganwaris, 727 primary Schools, 107 middle schools, 49 high schools, 31 senior secondary schools, two colleges and an ITI for offering education to the future citizens of the nation. The total literacy rate of the district is 72.9% of which male literacy rate is 83.98% and female literacy rate is 60.88%. As far as higher education is concerned, as mentioned earlier there are two colleges in the district of which one is government college and the ITI is also functioning under the Government of Himachal Pradesh.

Government College, Kullu:

Government College, Kullu, which is approved by the University Grants Commission under Sections 2 (b) and 12 (f) came into existence in the year 1967. The college offers arts, science and commerce education with affiliation from the Himachal Pradesh University. For getting into these courses offered by the institution, candidates must have completed their higher secondary in appropriate streams of education.

Government ITI, Kullu:

This institution is called as ITI, Shamshi and it is located in the district of Kully. The institute offers the following job-oriented courses:

In addition to these college, the other private college functioning in the district is Kullu College of Education and this college Bachelor of Education course for preparing future teachers. This college is permitted to admit 100 students per year and it is running under Himalayan Education Society. The branch of National Association for the Blind is functioning from the Kullu District and this association is meant for helping out visually challenged people. There is also a multiple handicapped section in this association for helping people handicapped in other ways than blindness.

Thus, the district of Kulu even though has lesser number of colleges, offers skillful candidates for the development and growth of the state of Himachal Pradesh.
