How to Prepare For the NID Entrance Exam?

The NID entrance exam is carried out by the National Institute of Design for the admittance of interested students into the various courses offered by many well known Indian institutes of fashion. This exam shall be held in 12 centres across the country. The educational qualification needed by one to appear for this exam is a pass in the higher secondary exam from a recognized institution.

Structure of the National Institute of Design Entrance Test

The National Institute of Design Entrance test encompasses 3 aptitude tests that carry a minimum of 60 marks. The main intention of this exam is to assess the aptitude, innovation and perception of the applicants. This exam comprises of the following:

  • Animation
  • Abstract Symbolism
  • Composition
  • Knowledge of Proportions and Perspective
  • Memory Drawing
  • Thematic Colour Arrangement
  • Visual Design

Syllabus of the National Institute of Design Entrance Test

This exam does not have a prescribed syllabus. Students will need to have a very good idea on the topics mentioned below:

  • Communication Skills
  • Composition
  • Creativity
  • Drawing Skills
  • General Mental Ability
  • Sensitivity to Environment
  • Subjects of Design

Those students who cleared this written test with good marks shall be notified about the studio test.  Following this a personal interview shall be held.

Study plan for the National Institute of Design Entrance Test

The future and career of the students will be determined as per their performance in this entrance exam. Because of this, students need to be very careful and much focused on their studies. They can allot time for each topic according to its level of difficulty. Besides this, they can refer guides or take question papers from the internet. Having a good idea about the exam pattern will provide more confidence to the students. In addition to this, they can also assess their level of understanding of the subject and can rectify any mistakes that might occur. One other thing they can do is to attend coaching classes and learn drawing. This skill will be of great help for them during the course of their career. Instructors will be able to guide them and give their professional opinion in areas where students have any doubts. Students are recommended to read newspapers, watch English News Channels and read books that will help them enhance their vocabulary.
