Cargo handling, stowage and seamanship is a compulsory paper that is to be attempted by students of nautical engineering in Indira Gandhi Open University. This subject has two papers. The details of paper ii are discussed below.

The paper II in cargo handling, stowage and seamanship is purely descriptive type and there are no objective questions in it. The exam is for a total mark of 70 and the time allotted to complete the exam is two hours. The question paper consists of a single section. The candidate has to answer all the questions in the section. Most of the questions will have sub divisions. There will be 10 sub division questions in the first question and each will carry 2 marks.

The paper totally consists of 6 questions and five of them carry ten marks and one carries 20 marks. The questions include both long and short answer type questions. There will always be a descriptive question that carries 10 marks. This question will not have any sub divisions. The use of calculators is allowed for solving numerical questions. The exam is conducted at the end of every term. Candidates should pass in this paper before they are promoted to the next term.
