The Institute was a recent establishment of the year 2006 by the ministry of HRD, govt. of India. The main of this institute aim was promoting science and education and research through the state. The current campus of the Indian Institute of Science Education and research in Bhopal is not permanent and the new campus is expected to be built latest by the year 2011. The current campus is located in the govindpura district of Bhopal. The Campus will be serve all the requirements of the students and will be equipped with all modern facilities.

The Indian Institute of Science Education and research in Bhopal offers many courses under various departments like the department of Biology, Department of Chemistry, Department of Physics and Department of Mathematics.

The Facilities at the Institute includes the Library that is a complete place for many books and various other study materials for any course that the institute takes. The Library also contains journals, newspapers and other digital resources to help students in the various activities for complete and in depth knowledge of the subjects. The Institute also provides computing facilities which is fully evolved by HCL work stations that are completely networked forming a backbone of the organization. A proposal for Red Hat LINUX systems is also under consideration that will provide high performance and better computing system for better research opportunities. The Institute also has Physics, chemistry and Biology separate fully equipped and well maintained laboratories to gain a practical exposure for them.

The Institute takes in students in BS-MS integrated course, if the students has passed 12th standard under the 10+2 system or its equivalent in the science field after 10th standard. Only merit list candidates of IITJEE, the join entrance examination are eligible to apply for admission. However Direct admission can be on the basis of some internal tests and performance in GDs.
