Allahabad Agriculture Institute is presently called as Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences and this institution was awarded the status of deemed university under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act 1956. The institution was given this name in honor of its creator Dr. Sam Higginbottom, who with his dedication, efforts and sincere services, has contributed towards developing the agricultural production of India. Keeping in view, the efforts made by Dr. Sam Higginbottom, the Ministry of Human Resource Development of Indian Government was submitted with a proposal to divide the Allahabad Agricultural deemed university and to offer it with his name. This proposal was accepted on the 22nd of September 2009 and Allahabad Agricultural University was converted as Dr. Sam Higginbottom Deemed University of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences.
