Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati Univesrity is located at Ajmer in the state of Rajasthan. The university was formed in the year 1987 on the first of August and was given the name in honor of the great philosopher Maharshi Dayananda Saraswati. Initially the name of the university was University of Ajmer and it was given its present name in the year 1992.

The jurisdiction of the university is spread over six divisions in the state of Rajasthan. The university began teaching under subjects like mathematics, botany, zoology, political science and history in the year 1990. In the following year, teaching and M. Phil programmes were started by botany, political science and history departments and later in the same year job-oriented courses like PG diplomas in lab, microbiology and environmental technology were introduced. Maharshi Dayanand Sarawati University was shifted to its present campus in the year 1993 and during this year new departments like computer applications, management studies, applied chemistry, foods and nutrition and microbiology were started by the university and the courses like PG diploma, MBA, M. Sc and Ph.D were offered by these departments.

Within a short period of its inception, the university came out with a number of research works in the form of Ph. D thesis and publications. Both under-graduation and post-graduation courses are conducted by the university and some of the prominent courses are B. Sc, B. Ed, LLB and LLM. Furthermore, the university is conducting diploma and certificate courses in subjects like taxation laws and practice, population studies and computer science.
