The Central University of Gujarat came into existence in the year 2009 on the 3rd of March and it is operating from the city of Gandhinagar in Gujarat, it was established through the Central University Act 2009. The university was established with the objective of advancement and dissemination of knowledge, to train and educate manpower for the growth of the nation, to make provisions for integrated courses, to take appropriate measure for promotion of innovation in learning and teaching. Different schools like school of Environment and Sustainable Development, School of Life Sciences, School of Chemical Sciences, School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies, School of International Studies and School of Social Sciences are functioning under the University for offering education.

Central University of Gujarat is a non-affiliating university focused on innovative teaching and research processes. The university offers different courses and each course offered by the university is divided into core courses, elective courses, supportive courses and social orientation courses. The university is planning to introduce schools in different disciplines like medicine, technology, engineering, humanities, social science and natural sciences. Central University of Gujarat is planning to introduce Master of Philosophy in Doctor of Philosophy in the field of Nanotechnology. For seeking admission to the M. Phil and Ph. D courses offered by the School of Environment & Sustainable Development, life sciences and chemical sciences, candidates should be Master’s degree holders in science stream of education. On the other hand, for admission to the Ph. D and M. Phil courses offered by the other schools of education functioning under the university, candidates should be Master’s degree holders in any stream of education.

For admission to the postgraduate courses offered by the university in science streams, candidates must be UG degree holders in science stream, while for other PG courses, candidates must be UG degree holders in any stream of education. Admission to the different courses offered by the university is done based on the performance of the students in the entrance examination.
