The pharmaceutical industry in India is in a very interesting and developing phase. Because of the massive development happening in this industry the job opportunities have also gone up drastically. Experienced individuals of this field are given priority in the field. But experience alone is not enough for one to move up the ladder of success. It is also needed for them to have advanced level qualifications. More details on why the Masters level degree is needed for a B.Pharm student is mentioned below.

Reasons for doing the masters:

One of the main reasons why a person must do the M.Pharm course is that only through this degree will one get more skilled in any one particular field. Moreover, the majority of Indian as well as international firms gives more preference for those students who have master’s level course in pharmacy. Though students after completing their B.Pharm can get, the options available at hand for them will be very much limited. So, one can say that it is necessary for a person to have the PG degree in pharmacy if they wish to pursue a better career in this field.

The masters degree in pharmacy offers a person advanced training in a variety of field. A few specializations available comprise of:

  • Pharmacology
  • Pharmaceutics
  • Pharmacognosy

One other available specialization is Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.

Why is doing this so important?

One must understand that with the B.Pharm degree, one will only get the fundamental idea about the subject. But with studying the M.Pharm course, one will be able to understand the finer aspects of this course clearly. Because of this reason, the number of students who are opting for the Masters degree has increased. In addition to this, because of the growth of the pharmaceutical industry the job opportunities available have also gone up in this field. With better job prospects come better salary packages. Therefore, it is considered to be important for a person to take up the masters in pharmacy degree soon after finishing the B.Pharm degree.
