The minimum Pay scale for the position of Chief Engineer in Government jobs in India is Rs.9300-34800 plus a GP of Rs.4600. This is the minimum pay scale offered for this position; however, some organizations offer a higher pay scale for Chief Engineers.

Union Public Service Commission – Rs. 9300-34800 plus GP of Rs.4600

Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) Limited - Rs. 37400 - 67000 + Grade pay of Rs. 8700

Delhi State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited - Rs. 15600-39100 + Grade Pay of Rs. 7600

Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation - Consolidated pay of Rs. 19500–25600

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. - CDA grade of Rs. 37400-67000 with grade pay Rs. 10000 or IDA pay scale of Rs. 51300-73000 on Deputation or Rs. 51300-73000 (IDA) on Direct Recruitment Basis.

From the aforesaid pay scales, it is clear that candidates appointed for the position of Chief Engineering in government organizations can expect a pay scale of not less than Rs. 9000 per month.

Educational Qualification needed for the position of Chief Engineer:

As the name of the position itself implies, candidates with Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology are normally appointed for the position of Chief Engineer. However, since the position is a Chief Engineering position, some government organizations require that candidates must have completed their PG in engineering/technology and even MBA or MCA. The branch of engineering differs according to the requirement of the organization for which they are appointed.

Selection Process:

Most of the government organizations follow the performance of candidates in written test and interview as the criteria for selection of candidates for the position of Chief Engineer, while some organizations even conduct interview alone for the selection of candidates for this position.

Experience:

Chief Engineer job description:

A chief engineer in any organization will co-ordinate, direct the engineering staff in the formulation of designs & plans, and in the cost estimation for a particular project requirement of the organization. They also provide instructions on materials, equipment and labor requirement for the successful completion of a project. They will also approve agreements with contractors or vendors for execution of a project. They will have to take part in different projects of the organization or in some specific project right from the beginning until the successful completion of the project.
