Guest Faculties are professors who are invited to serve as a member of faculty of a university or college for some specific number of years or months during an academic year. Even some universities and colleges appoint them as permanent faculty members based on their performance in the given period.

Normally, the pay scale of guest faculty in universities and colleges run by Government in India would be fixed on monthly basis somewhere between Rs. 12000 to Rs. 16000. Their pay scale is decided based on their educational qualification and experience in that particular field of education.

Recent job notification for the position of Guest Faculty:

Recently, the following organizations called for applications from eligible candidates for the position of guest faculty:

• Government Engineering College, Bharatpur

• National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics

• University of Hyderabad

• Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology

Apart from the above organizations, the following organizations also called for applications from eligible candidates for the position of Visiting Faculty:

• Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib

• Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi

However, in case candidates are appointed as visiting faculty, they are paid honorarium and not salary as in the case of guest faculty.

Educational Qualification needed for finding job in the position of Guest Faculty:

Normally, candidates with the following educational qualification are appointed for the position of Guest Faculty:

• Ph. D holders in appropriate discipline for which faculties are invited

• Master’s degree holders in the appropriate discipline

In case Ph. D holders and Master’s degree holders do not apply for the positions, Bachelor’s degree holders are considered for the position of guest faculty. In the selection of candidates for the position of Guest Faculty, preference will be given to candidates with NET/SLET score.

NET Score:

NET indicates National Eligibility Test and this test is conducted by the University Grants Commission to determine whether a candidate is eligible for lectureship.

SLET Test:

SLET indicates State Level Entrance Test conducted at each state to determine the eligibility of candidate belonging to that particular state for lectureship.

Having any of these score will add weightage to the resume of the candidates applying for the position of Guest Faculty in a university/college.

Selection Procedure:

Most of the colleges and universities, consider the performance of the candidates in interview and their academic records for selection of candidates for the position of Guest faculty. Even some organizations conduct written test in case the number of candidates applying for the position is higher.
