The SACON was founded in the year 1990. It is an autonomous body dealing with the studies of natural history and ornithology. It is also dealing with bird life and natural resources conservation, forests etc. It also sets up field stations to meet the requirements of various research projects. 

Job profile: The scientists will be responsible for leading a team to identify and develop conservation research programs in different areas like ornithology, wetland ecosystems birds etc., raise funds for the programs, identify research problems and give new proposals.

Eligibility: A candidate must not exceed the age of 45 years for the post of principal scientist, 40 years for senior scientist and 35 years for scientist. However, relaxation can be claimed.

Educational Qualifications: For principal scientist – A candidate must have PhD with 15 years of experience in the relevant field. For senior scientist – A candidate must have PhD with 10 years of experience in the relevant field. For scientist - A candidate must have PhD with 5 years of experience in the relevant field.

No. of posts: There are 7 posts in total which include 1 post for principal scientists (Conservation Biology), 1 post for senior scientist (Wetland Ecology) and 5 post for scientists (in Conservation Biology, Wetland Ecology, Ornithology, Environmental impact assessment and Avian Physiology and Genetics).

Pay scale: The pay scale for a principal scientist is Rs14300-18300, for a senior scientist it is Rs12000-16500 and for a scientist it is Rs10000-15200. Other usual allowances will be given as per the rules.

Selection process: The candidates have to undergo an interview. The selections will be based on the merit.

How to apply: The candidates are required to apply on a plain paper containing the details of their particulars and experience. They are required to send the copies of their documents and photographs along with the applications. The applications must reach the Director Incharge, Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History, Anaikatty post, Coimbatore – 641108 (Tamil Nadu)

The applications must reach on or before 10th September 2009.
