Hi

If you are planning to prepare for the Civil Service Examinations right from the first year of your B.Tech, then its very good. But I must tell you that with this you would need a lot of determination, hard work, and passion for your goal.

Civil Service Exam is conducted by the UPSC every year to recruit candidates for the various posts under this. There are very few posts, but the number of applicants are very large, resulting in the competition getting tougher and tougher ever year.

So I do not know which stream are you doing your B.Tech in. For the syllabus I am giving you a link, where you can find the full syllabus related to your stream.

Syllabus

Eligibility for Civil Service Exams :

1. The candidates should be graduates in any discipline from a recognized university.

2. They should be an Indian National

3. Age limits should be within 21 to 30 years for the GEN category. 21 - 33 for the OBC category and 21 - 35 years for the SC/ST category.

So first of all you have to concentrate on your B.Tech and gain the maximum knowledge that you can out of it. Side by side prepare for this exam.

You can prepare online also, get study materials also and books. Click Here

For any more information regarding this exam please Click Here to visit the official website of UPSC.

All the best

Hi....
You need to work hard fot cracking a civil service exam..
Cracking civil service is not an easy task
The prelims will be Civil Service Admission Test (CSAT)
Thi involves exercises like Data Interpretation, Data sufficiency etc . Such questions requires a lot if practice and training. It is important to train well for these and also need to work A lot of sample papers to improve your speed.

Once you clear the prelims you have to appear for the mains
The mains will involve you specialising in two subjects. It will be more of a descriptive exam. you are required to have a good understanding of the subject and write the answers that is rich in content. a longterm study will be ideal

Followed by this is the group discussion and personal interview
For GD it is necessary to have knowledge about the current issues
Do not be bossy and dominate people
Try to cordinate with the group
Do not interrupt when someone is speaking

For personal interview
It is must you be calm and cool
dress well and look smart
research about your state and recent current affairs

If your aim is IAS officer, then its better to join an IAS academy along with doing a lots of self study...

The civil service exam has a huge syllabus so you should start clearing your basic knowledge....

you have lots of time in your hand...

so focus on your aim.

I am giving you a pattern of civil service exam...

Sure you can start preparation for the exam. You must begin with general awareness section. It requires vast reading. You must read newspapers, periodicals and also journals etc. Make sure to be abreast about the latest events and also major events of the past. You also need to start preparation for the Aptitude section probably when you complete the second year of engineerng.
