it can be paid both ways if you apply online you need to send DD and offline you need to pay by cash

The best and easiest method is to register through online process .You will have to download a challan and deposit required amount in the branch of bank .The details are given below :

First of all visit http://www.iist.ac.in/isat2012
Fill the form there.
After sucessfully filling up of the form , you will get a ISAT Registration Number.This will be treated as your user id and the password will be same as you enter in the form.
Now click on "Get My Challan " link to download ISAT-2012 challan.This will give you triplet(three ) copies i.e one for the Bank ,one for the student and one for the institute.
Now submit the fee mentioned on the challan in the bank specified before 6th january 2012.
The copy of challan mentioned as "Institute copy" counter signed by the bank officials should be sent to "The Chairman, ISAT-2012,Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology,Valiamala P.O., Thiruvanantpuram-695 547, Kerala " with your Registration Number and Name clearly written on the envelope.
You can also upload Institute copy directly into the Website mentioned above by logging into your login id.
