Re: Which books to read to become an IAS officer?

Books to prepare for the exams are::

To keep updated with ‘current affairs’ you will require reading newspapers from at least one year back from the time of appearing for exam.

Other than books, you also need to prepare from a good atlas for ‘Geography’.

For ‘General Knowledge’, you must read ‘Competition Success Review” and collect facts.

Also, you can solve question papers of previous years’ preliminaries.

For ‘General Studies’ read political and business magazines as much as you can but within limit.

For ‘optional subject paper’, the most important thing is that you choose a subject about which you are very much confident.

Some other books are ::

General Studies For Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2012 (Paper 1)
by Tmh

General Studies For Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2012 (Paper 2)
by Arun Sharma, Madhukar Kumar Bhagat, Hari Mohan Prasad, Abhijit Guha
I have attached the syllabus of the exam i hope it will help you to prepare for the examination .

Hey friend

as you are just a 10th class student its very tough to suggest you books for IAS because IAS is somewhat big word for your age.
and your Understanding.

What I suggest at this moment is to do these things.

->make a habit to read Newspaper daily. Preferably Newspapers like The Hindu . Which will have right content in their scripts.

->Watch news regularly in TV and get updated.

->In future in IAS examination if you take Geography as your optional subject then the things you learn at the stage of 10th class might help apart from that to learn geography you can also see some use ful channels like Discovery,Animal Planet,National Geographic Channel. These are the Channels which are most useful in understanding about the things which are in and out of Books.

->Make note points about Current Affairs. for example the issues like Jan Lok Pal Bill, Current petrol Hikes. what are the circum stances which lead to these issues in the country , What government has responded to public's reaction.

and also the issues like Recession in American Market.
What is making Engineers to worry about Recession in IT and software industry.

like these what not you can make points on every aspect and increase your general Knowledge and awareness about various issues.

all the success mantra of Civil service aspirants and successful candidates is dedicated hardwork right from their child hood and for their intellectual brain.

I wish all the very luck to you too. After completing your 12th atleast you can start looking at the actual syllabus before that it's waste of your interest. I guess.

Regards
