Re: Books that I can choose for WBCS preliminary examination? dear friend,  Eligibility for WBCS preliminary examination 1.>Educational Qualifications : (i) A Graduation degree of a recognized University. (ii) Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali (not required for recruitment in the case of candidates from hill areas of the district Darjeeling, i.e. for Nepali speaking candidates). 2.>Age Factor: Age not below 21 years but not more than 32 years at the time of examination for services and posts For SC/ST/PD relaxation is as government rule. 3.>FEE: Candidates must enclose with their applications a fee of Rs.210/- (Rupees two hundred ten) only in the form of Indian Postal Order/Treasury. WBCE EXAM PATTERN Compulsory Papers : Paper I : Bengali / Hindi / Urdu / Nepali Essay, Precis Writing, Composition and Translation from English into Bengali / Hindi / Urdu / Nepali (Marks 40+20+20+20). Paper II : English Essay, Precis Writing, Composition and Translation from Bengali/Hindi / Urdu / Nepali into English (Marks 40+20+20+20). Paper III : General Knowledge and Current Affairs (Excluding questions on the Constitution of India and the Five-year Plans (Marks 50+50). Paper IV : The Constitution of India and the Five-year Plans (Marks 50+50). Paper V : Arithmetic and Test of Reasoning (Marks 50+50). Optional Subjects: Optional Subject I: (Marks 200) Any one from optional subjects list and consist of Paper I (Marks 100), Paper II (Marks 100). Optional Subject II: (Marks 200) Any one from optional subjects list and consist of Paper I (Marks 100), Paper II (Marks 100).
