AFCAT stand for Air Force Common Admission Test


This exam is conducted for candidates to join in Indian Air Force.This exam is conducted for 3 branches in IAF and they may include such as:

Ground Duty Branch

Flying Branch

Technical Branch


Flying Branch:


The candidate should have a age limit of 19-23 years.

The candidate must have the B.E / B.Tech degree or a Graduate in any discipline with minimum 60% aggregate marks.


Technical Branch:

The age limit for joining in this branch is that the candidate must have 18-28 years of age

The education qualification for the branch is that the candidate must have done Aeronautical Engineering with minimum 60% marks.

Hello ,

Applications are invited in the month of January/February from eligible male and female (both unmarried) Indian citizens for SSC Course for Helicopter Pilots in Flying Branch for the courses commencing in January and July.

Age limit for IAF Pilots :
19 to 23 years on the 1st of the month of commencement of the course.

Minimum Educational Qualification for IAF Pilots:
BSc {Physics/Maths) 3 years or BE 4 years or BSc (General) 3 years with Physics and Maths.
The candidate should not have failed INS-B/PAB Test earlier.
Should not have been suspended in Flying Training earlier.

Details Regarding Selection Procedure
Interivews Test/ Personality Test All candidates will be required to appear for Pilot Aptitude Battery Test, except those
already qualified previously.

All PAB Test qualified candidates will then be required to appear for rest of the Air Force
Selection Board tests comprising of officers Intelligence Test/Psychological/Group Tests and Interview.

The total selection period is approx 5 or 6 days. Candidates finally recommended by the Selection Board will be routed to Medical Examination which may take another 6 or 7 days. Duration of training is 72 weeks at Air Force Academy.

->candidates give the CDS exam .this exam is conducted by UPSc twice in year,
->Age limit is 19-25 years.
->Graduation criteria :complete degree with any stream with 60% marks..
2.Ground Branch:
->Give the AFCAT exam for Ground branch.
->for ground branch candidate are complete your degree from any university with 60% marks.
The age limit is 20-25 years .

3.Technical branch:

->In technical branch complete graduation from university with 60% marks.

Apply for job in flying branch. this is also related to technical branch partially.
you may apply for Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE). the educational qualification eligibility is-
a. Graduate ( Three Year Course ) in any discipline from a recognised university (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) / BE / B Tech( Four Year Course) .
b. Final Year students can also apply, provided thay donot have any backlog.
c. No Percentage Bar for CDSE entry.

Both the branches is very good.you can apply in the Air Force in Technical or Flying Branch after doing B.Tech CSE.

Technical Branch:-
You can apply for this branch through University Entry Scheme.
Candidate having degree in engineering are only eligible for this
branch.

Candidate age should be between 18 to 28 years.


Flying Branch:-
The various entry schemes through which you can join flying
branch of Indian Air force are listed below.

a)Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE)
For this entry scheme you should be graduate in any discipline.
Candidates who appeared in the final year examination are
also eligible.

See as you are a 3rd year student in CSE and you want to join in the Air force.So you may join Air-force after completing your master degree(if you wish).The maximum age limit for Air-force is 25 and minimum is 18 years old.
There are three posts of any technical students in Air-force and these are ----
1.Flying Branch
2.Technical branch
3.Ground duty branch

In general the B.Tech student are get chance in technical branch.But in flying branch and ground duty branch total number of employees are less compared to the technical.

To join in Air force,you have to give entrance exam i.e Common Defence Academy (CDS)

CDS exam is part in upsc exam.

CDS exam notification for this year:

Date of submitting application online is on 30-04-2011
Last date of submitting application online is on 30-05-2011

Exam is going held on 18-09-2011

Air Force Academy Through
combined defence service examination (CDSE)

Age Limit :- 19 to 23 years

Educational Qualifications :- B Sc (Physics and/ or Mathematics) or B E.

Entrance :- Through a written examination conducted by UPSC followed by a Services Selection Board interview for those who pass the written examination.

Advertisement :- In the month of April/ November by UPSC. The format of application will be available in the Employment News. Successful candidates join the Air Force Academy directly for Pilot Training.

For joining IAF(Indian Air Force) there are mainly two exams ;

These are:-

1.Through CDSE(Combined Defense Services examination)-

Qualification required- Any graduate degree/BE/B Tech degree and having passed Physics and maths in class 12th.

Age limit- 19-23 years

Month of exam- It is conducted twice a year. In the month of April and September.

2.Through SSC(Short service commission)-

Qualification required- Any graduate degree/BE/B Tech degree with minimum 60% marks and having passed Physics and maths in class 12th.

Age limit- 19-23 years

Month of exam- It is conducted twice a year. In the month of March and September.

There is another Exam which is AFCAT-

The AFCAT exam would be conducted on 2th March 2011 (Sunday) at on of the examination centers mentioned below.

The entrance test will be of two hours duration and will contain multiple choice questions on verbal ability, numerical ability, reasoning, general awareness and aptitude. once finalized the details of short listed candidates based on Air Force Common Admission Test will be displayed air force career web site

Last Date for receipt of application: 22nd February 2011
Last Date for receipt of application for far flung areas candidates: 1st march 2011.

Eligibility Criteria for Indian Air force: -

1. For Flying (Pilot) -

a. He / She pass graduation in any subject or in any engineering stream with at least minimum 60 % aggregate marks from a regonised institute / university.

b. He / She must have passed Mathematics and Physics in 10+2 standard.

c. Age = not be more than 30 years of age.

2. For Metrological Branch -

a. He / She pass Post Graduation in Science / Geography / MCA with at least minimum 50 % aggregate marks from a regonised institute / university.

b. He / She must have passed Mathematics and Physics in 10+2 standard.

c. Age = not be more than 25 years of age.
