you will have to write and clear upsc civil services examination to become ias with good marks. the exam is conduted at two levels i.e. prelims and mains.
prelims will consist of two papers which will have questions from gs/current affairs, english comprehension, logical and aptitude test. in mains exam you will have select two papers of your choice from the list of subjects. the questions will be asked from these subjects only and it will be subjective type question and also questions from gs will also asked and you should also pass in english and hindi papers at the main exams. After clearing these two papers you will have to clear interview. then only you can become ias.

Re: Procedure of ias examination?

If you are interested in becoming an IAS officer, you probably know what the IAS is all about and why becoming an IAS officer is a very good career option. However, just incase you do not know, let us give you some quick information on IAS!
If you become an IAS officer, you become part of the Indian Administrative Service. You will be part of the Govt. You can work from “the inside” and change “the system”!!

If you have a dream for India, or if you, like us, believe that India will soon be a “super-power”. If you want to be part of the process of making India a great nation, IAS is for you! Being an IAS officer, there is a lot more power and control you have so that you can be part of Emerging India!

Besides that, IAS is a great career option! You get many “perks of the job” when you are an IAS officer. You will have “job security”, “discount on Govt. services”, “Govt. provided transportation” and many more things... Even though the monthly salary provided by the IAS career is not too high, the “perks” make up for the less salary!

However, getting into the IAS is not that easy! There is a very competitive “one year long” exam! To get into the IAS, you probably will have to try more than once before you succeed. And even if you clear the exam, then you have to get a very good score to qualify for the IAS! So, basically getting into the IAS is not that easy. However, here on indiahowto.com, we will try to show you “how to..” get in.

To get into the IAS, you will have to give the “UPSC held Civil Services Examination”. It is a common exam for getting into the IAS, IPS etc. To succeed in the “Civil Services Examination” you first need to understand how the examination is conducted or the “examination format”! But, before we understand that, let get some "Frequently Asked Questions" out of the way….

Re: Procedure of ias examination?

IAS exams are conducted by UPSC. And you have to appear in the two exams, One is Mains and another is Prelims examination. you have to crack both the examination to be an IAS officer.

in mains exams, you have to select four optional subjects and the exams of this papers was descriptive means you have to write your answer. questions are not multiple choice type question.

the prelims exams consists of 2 papers of general studies and optional subjects.

for general studies you should go through the newspaper daily and you have to improve your general knowledge skill. for optional paper you have to choose optional subject and you have to study it to clear the examination.

work hard for the examination because this examination is not so much easy.you may join in some good coaching center and try to solve the model question papers of this examination and also you will get some study material..

also try to go through the previous year question paper to increase your ability to know the quality of the examination.

Main Exams Pattern -

Paper I - One of the Indian languages to be selected by the candidate from the Languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of 300 marks

Paper II - English of 300 marks

Paper III - Essay of 200 marks

Papers IV and V - General Studies. 300 marks for each paper

Papers VI, VII, VIII and IX: Any two subjects to be selected from the list of the optional subjects. Each subject will have two papers of 300 marks for each paper.

Interview test contains - 300 marks.

this is the total procedure for IAS examination.

best wishes.
