Re: Can I take admission for mechanical after completing diploma in computer technology?

Sorry to inform you that for admission in Mechanical Engineering you need to complete your diploma in Mechanical only. Since you have completed your diploma in computer technology you can not opt for Mechanical Engineering.

You can opt for IT or Computer Engineering after the diploma in Computer Technology. But the Computer Engineering is a better option than IT.
Computer Engineering also gives a good career option.

You can get direct admission into the 2nd year of the B.Tech course through Lateral Entry Scheme. All the Engineering Colleges in India have some seats for Lateral Entry Scheme.
Admission are taken on the basis of either diploma marks or through Entrance Examination. LEET examinations are held for the admission of candidates through the Lateral Entry Scheme.

BEST OF LUCK!!

YES you can take admission into mechanical engineering, as you would see that there are many students who change their branch in the 2nd year of their B.Tech degree course and the diploma holders are directly given admission in the 2nd year of engineering, so they are free to take admission in any department as the actual study of branch starts from 2nd year.

I am afraid there is no way for you to get admission for mechanical engineering with computer technology diploma. If you really want to do Mechanical Engineering then you should have done diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

That would have made to eligible for Engineering course through lateral entry scheme. In case you do not know about lateral entry scheme, in this scheme candidates who have compelted diploma course in Engineering after 10th or B.Sc are eligible for Engineering course.

Through lateral entry you would get admission for second year of the Engineering course. All the Engineering colleges in India reserve some seats for the lateral entry scheme admission. Generally its in the range of 10 to 20 percent.

A lot of colleges give the admission purely on the basis of merit. If you have scored more than 60 percent in diploma course then you would probably get direct admission without any problem. However others may haveto appear for LEET entrance exam to get lateral entry in Engineering.

Although the Mechanical Engineering option is closed for you, there are still some options left. You can enquire about B.Tech in Computer Science or IT. I am sure you would manage to get lateral entry for these courses.

In case you are wondering which one of these two should I choose, I would say the first option, B.Tech in Computer Science.

You would easily make a good career in Computer Science Engineering degree. It has almost same scope as the MCA. Several IT companies hire Computer Science Engineers . Therefore this is perhaps the best option for you in case you have made up your mind to do Engineering.
