Re: Salary for Petroleum Technology Engineer?

Your skill level, experience, academic qualifications and etc can increase your salary up to 5 times over (up to $200k/yr+ in India) but you would need at least 30 years of experience to get into that kind of pay scale.

Computer science, or electronic engineering is incredibly boring that you might just jump out of your classroom from boredness!

Re: Salary for Petroleum Technology Engineer?

At the beginning, a petroleum engineer gets anything between Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh a year which grows exponentially with experience. A petroleum engineer has to work in harsh conditions, that's why he is compensated well. His salary is normally much more than that of other engineers. Engineers with added skills ear two-three times as much and career advancement is very fast.

Production operations in petroleum engineering require people who love action and have a knack for keeping the operations smooth and running in the face of several challenges. The scope for petroleum engineers is very expansive. There is a constant challenge to ring up the recovery factor from the producing fields and even more pressure on discovering new reserves.

Some good colleges that offer engineering courses in petroleum technology are listed below:

Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad

Oandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar

MIT Pune

University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Rai Bareli
