Re: Can a civil engineer become an Astronaut?

AS Far as I know, Civil Engineers are not eligible for the Post of Astronauts.

TO Become an Astronaut, you need to have Maths And Physics as the main subject. YOu are required to complete your Phd in the same and after completing your Phd, you need to apply for the post of Astronaut by taking the exam conducted by NASA or ISRO.

A Person with a graduate degree in Aerospace engineer is also Eligible TO Apply after completing its Phd.

So I Would suggest you to look further the stream related to your branch.

Re: Can a civil engineer become an Astronaut?

Hi dear,

I wonder why you want such a sudden shift. Anyways i think that for astronaut you must have a background in aeronautical engineering. Its not a criteria but its good to have a degree in AE which will help you to get into NASA

I have never heard about a civil engineer becoming an astronaut But yeah i have even hear that pilots can become astronauts too.

So its possible to become one but its extremely tough to do so.

You can check this link given below which gives out the points on how astronauts get recruited

http://www.nasa.gov/astronauts/recruit.html

Thanks

Re: Can a civil engineer become an Astronaut?

A sivil engineer can not became an astronaut. Thise two fields are totali different.
You have one way to become an astronaut . If you start again from the very beginning. It is impossible for you.

It will be best for you , go for higer stady like M-Tech or even can MBA.

If you not intrested in higher study than you can try for a govt.job or public sector as a civil engineer.

Re: Can a civil engineer become an Astronaut?

first of all i would lik to reply why not???????
u can become......
1.if u completed (be degree) in civil,,,
2.thn take up gate exam
3.in iit they are offering aerospace courses even for civil and mech
4.only these two branches can take up aerospace(aerodynamics and aerospace structure)
so after tat u can become but be sure tat first two semesters going 2 be very hard...so tat u can cope up with others those who hav background of aero or mech

a civil engineer can not become an astronaut. civil engg. and astronaut are entirely different fields. for becoming an astronaut you should have taken aeronautical engg, as your stream in btech. so you must try for any other job.
good luck

Re: Can a civil engineer become an Astronaut?

There is some opportunity for the civil engineer to become a astronout but it is better to choose the path which is related to your degree which leads to bright future.

Re: Can a civil engineer become an Astronaut?

dear frnd,

yes you can.

but for it you have to join NASA or ISRO.

ISRO publish vacancies in employment news.

FOR NASA you have to go USA.

Re: Can a civil engineer become an Astronaut?

Dear friend,

These two careers are far different from one another.

To be an astronaut you must have dealt with physics or related subjects or even get degree in aeronautical/aerospace engg.

You should have thought of it at the time when you were starting your career after 12th.

Now with the thought of becoming an astronaut, you have to again start from the very beginning which is impossible thing.

I would like to suggest you to take up further higher studies in civil engg, you can go for M.Tech or even can do MBA in construction management.

So don't look backward now, just go forward with what you have achieved..

All the best!

Re: Can a civil engineer become an Astronaut?

Hello,

As far as i know, Civil Engg has no relation with becoming an astronaut. It is a totally different field.
If you wanted to become an astronaut, you should have decided about it a long time at the time choosing your career. But now, i think it is too late for that career.

However, dont get disheartened.I recommend you to look for a job in civil engg.. you can try fr a govt. job as there is a lot of of civil engineers in the public sector.
India being a developing, demand for civil engineers is constantly growing.

Best OF Luck..!!
