Biochemistry is surely a good career option. A Masters degree in biochemistry will make you eligible for a no. of jobs.
The pharmaceutical industry working in the area of genetically engineered drugs offer employment opportunities to biochemists candidates.
Jobs are also offered by both government and private medical institutions and hospitals engaged in research activities related to various diseases and disorders
yes,it is beneficial.because in recent times student get good job opportunities after M.Sc. in biochemistry as compared to M.Sc in zoology.i recommend always go with that subject which is your interested topic not the one which is recommended by someone other than your teachers or mentors

BIOCHEMISTRY is good choice as it has good career prospects :the
various career prospect are ::

in Medicine

Hospitals ,medical research institutes and pharmaceutical industry all require
biochemists.
biochemist carry out tests on blood, urine and other body fluids, alongside
researching the underlying causes of disease and the methods of treatment.

in Agriculture and the Environment

Biochemists have been responsible for many developments, such as pest-
resistant crops, improvements in crop yields and tomatoes that keep better.
They also monitor the environment.

in Education

The combination of biology and chemistry, along with the training in numerical
and analytical skills that is given in any area of science, makes biochemistry
ideal for teaching throughout the school age range.

There are also opportunities for more advanced teaching, usually associated
with research, in universities and colleges, and medical, dental and veterinary
schools.

The following universities offers M.Sc. Biochemistry programs:

Pondicherry University,
Puducherry,

Re: Biochemistry after bsc in zoology, beneficial?

Yes Biochemistry will be a good option soon after the completion of your Graduation in Zoology.

You did not mention that whether you are having Bio-chemistry as one of the subject in your graduation or not.

Anyway Biochemistry you can perform well if you have good touch with chemistry because Biochemistry deals with big big chemical structures and reactions.

Biochemistry and Biotechnology is also one of the good choice that i would suggest for you.

Many pharmaceutical companies will have plenty of jobs waiting for the candidates who have completed Biochemistry.

From the job prospects too, there are good number of jobs for Biochemistry candidates and have limited jobs for Zoology candidates after their post graduation .

So, taking Biochemistry will be a good option.

Re: Biochemistry after bsc in zoology, beneficial?

Students can obtain PhD, M.Sc. and even degree certificates in this subject to get a successful career in Biochemistry. The students who have high marks in Plus II level and had Physics, Chemistry and Biology as their optional subjects can go for a degree course in Biochemistry.

A large number of colleges in India offer a B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry. The students who opt for Biochemistry as their main subject can choose subjects like Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Industrial Microbiology as the subsidiary subjects. Some of the colleges even allow their students to study Biotechnology as the main subject and Biochemistry as the subsidiary subject. The students who have Zoology or Botany as their main subject can also select Biochemistry as their subsidiary subject for a course of B.Sc. degree.

The students can also go for a course in Biochemistry for their M.Sc., M.Phil or Ph.D. degree. The students who score high marks in their B.Sc. degree course in Biochemistry, Zoology, Botany, Biotechnology, etc. can opt for a M.Sc. in Biochemistry and only the students who score greater than 55% in their M.Sc. course can go for an M.Phil or Ph.D. programs that are offered at a limited number of colleges.
