Hi,

B.Com is an undergraduate course in commerce.

Commerce / Finance / Accounts is an evergreen field and there are lots of career opportunities in this field. The opportunities depend on what you choose to do and at what level.

After you complete B.Com., either you can pursue traditional higher education or a professional course.

Normally candidates do M.com.after B.com, which is a two year postgraduate course. M.com. can get you jobs of an accountant / account executive etc.

Then there are some professional courses that you can choose from –

MBA - A two year course in management

ICWAI – Institute of Cost and Work Accountant

CA – Chartered accountant

CS – Company Secretary

You can give entrance exams like CAT / MAT etc. if you want to do MBA, which is again a two year course. you can do MBA in Finance, it is in great demand.

The above courses like ICWA, CA and CS can be joined either after intermediate or graduation.

You can get admission in CA / ICWA/ CS by qualifying CPT exam.

Also after B.Com, you can apply for IPCC exam, through which you can get direct admission in intermediate level of CA course.

All these professional courses have great career prospects. Now choose the best one for you.

All the best.

Re: What should I opt for better career opportunities after B.Com?

There are a lot of options open after B.Com. They can be of two types:

1.CA,CS,CWA or banking.

2.Hotel management,Finance,Law,Civil services etc.

3.Tax advisor, Maketing, Insurance etc.

I could have mentioned more but these are considered as main option.

For admission in these course you have to pass entrance test like ICET ,CAT , CPT.

PROCEDURE FOR CA

I am pursuing CA course so i can tell you about it. You can join CA in two ways.

1.Clear 12th and apply for CPT entrance exams. If you secure 50% then you get admission in CA.

2.Do some other higher course like B.com and get admission directly.

After joining you will give your IPCC exam after 9 months. If you clear both group then you will have to join articleship under the supervision of a CA for 3 years. Thereafter you will be entitled for your final exams.

But it's totally up to you which path you want to follow and how you are going to progress. Best of luck.

Re: What should I opt for better career opportunities after B.Com?

You will be having the 2 choices after completion of your B.Com course - going for job opportunity and going for higher studies.

As you are asking for better career opportunities, it would be better for you to go for higher studies like Post Graduation.

The two best courses for you to join are
MBA
M.Com

If you want to increase core subject knowledge,it is better to join M.Com course.

In contrast to that, if you want to gain managerial knowledge along with your core subject knowledge, then it is better for you to join MBA course.

My suggestion for you also is to join MBA course.

MBA is management related course being offered by many of the colleges all over India. The duration of the course is 2 years.

The first year of MBA course will be common for all the candidates. But in the second year of MBA course, the candidate have to opt for specializations.

Some colleges will offer single specialization where as some other colleges will offer dual specializations.

The admission for this course will be given on the basis of performance in the Entrance Exam.

Some of the popular Entrance Exams through which you can join this course are
CAT
MAT
GMAT
XAT
SNAP etc.

In order to be eligible for MBA course, one should have to secure minimum 50% of marks in Graduation.
Relaxation is there in percentage of marks upto 5% for the candidates of SC or ST category.

Better to crack CAT or MAT Exams so that there is a chance for you to get admission for MBA course in B-Schools and IIMs which are the top institutes to join MBA course.

There are good number of job opportunities for the candidates after completion of MBA course.

The following specializations would be better for you to join in MBA course
MBA in Finance
MBA in Risk Management
MBA in Accounting
MBA in International Business
MBA in Entrepreneurship Management

Choose one of the specialization which you are interested from the above mentioned specializations.

To choose another specialization, you can opt for
MBA in Marketing Management
MBA in Human Resource Management

Have good preparation for the Entrance Exam and get admission for MBA course in a top college.

Wish you all the best.
