Re: Who was the first first prime minister of India? Jawaharlal Nehru was appointed as the first Prime Minister of independent India by the Governor General in 1947. He served at the post till 27 May 1964 when he died in office, making him the longest serving Prime Minister of the country. He belonged to the Indian National Congress party. |

He was elected by the inidan national congress.. he was bor on 14th november and his birthday is also celebrated as childrens day. He served as the prime minister from 15 january 1946 to 27 may 1964. His term was ended in 1951 but the people of india again voted for him as the prime minister. |
