GATE - Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an entrance exam for admission of M.Tech. courses in IITs, NTTs etc. conducted by IIT and Indian Institute of Science.

There is no specific criteria to enter in to IIT by cracking GATE.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having completed B.Tech. Engineering Degree in any stream from a recognised University, can apply for GATE.

Eligibility for IIT GATE Exam is as Follows :-


Educational Qualification (in any one of the below given):-
  • You should have Bachelor degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Phramacy of 4 years after 10+2.
  • Master degree in science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Application.
  • Integrated Master degree in Engineering/Technology.
  • Degree awarded by UPSC/AICTE in Science Technology.
Structure of GATE Exam :-
  • Total duration of exam will be 3 hours.
  • Total questions will be 65.
  • Total number of question will be 100.
Marks Distribution for GATE Exam :-
  • Question 1 to 25 - 1 marks for each.
  • Question 26 to 55 - 2 marks for each.
  • Question 56 to 65 - 2 marks for each.
Negative Marking for GATE Exam :-
  • Question 1 to 25 - 1/3 marks will be deduced.
  • Question 26 to 55 - 2/3 marks will be deduced.
  • Question 56 to 65 - 2/3 marks will be deduced.

There is no special criteria except the candidate should be a B.tech. Graduate in any stream to enter in to IIT by cracking GATE.

GATE - Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering conducted by IIT and Indian Institute of Science for admission to M.Tech. Courses in IITs, NITs and other reputed Institutions.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having completed B.Tech. Degree in any stream from a recognised University, can apply for GATE. There is no upper age limit for application to GATE.

The Eligibility Criteria To Appear in The Gate Exam is As Follows..

•Percentage in B-Tech must be 60% or above.

•You should have a great score in GATE exam.

•Be prepared to take another test at IIT for admission. Learn the basics of each subject, especially core subjects related to your engineering stream, as there may be a written test for admission to M.Tech if the number of candidates has close scores. Written test decision totally depends on the Department offering M.Tech program in IITs.

no....there is no criteria for percentage.....the following are the criterion :
The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear for GATE 2013:

Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final year of such programmes.

Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology/Architecture (Post-B.Sc./Post-Diploma) and those who are in the final year of such programmes.

Master's degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programmes.

Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master's degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology.

Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master's degree programme or Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.

Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institute of Engineers (India); AMICE by Institute of Civil Engineers (India)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

GATE score is mandatory for admission to IIT. Also you need to have a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in engineering degree. Admissions are made through a centralized counseling process. Allocation of IIT’s is done during the process. Candidates are allotted with institutions of their choice according to their marks in GATE.
