Hi

NTPC is the National Thermal Power Corporation. Its basically a Power Generation company which is Public Sector Undertaking. Its under the Government of India and supplies more than 28% of Power in the whole Nation. Now as you must be knowing its a dream company to work for.

There are usually two entries to get jobs in the NTPC Company. They are for :

Diploma Holders
Graduate Engineers (B.Tech/B.E)

As you have talked about your graduation, so I am assuming that you are a graduate in Engineering and now wish to apply for the NTPC. I must inform you that till 2011, NTPC and many other PSU's used to conduct their own examinations and recruit candidates on the basis of their performances in that exam.

But from the year 2012, most of the top PSU's have decided that they would recruit on the basis of the GATE Performance. GATE again is Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering and its a national level exam conducted by the IIT's for the PSU recruitment's and also for the M.Tech courses in IIT;s, NIT;s and other such courses.

If you wish to get a job in NTPC, then GATE is the exam that you need to crack. Not only crack, but you have to score the best in it. Usually there are a very few seats every year and so the competition is stiff..This is only way to get a job in this top dream company.

As such there are no marks requirements. You should be a minimum 10th pass, 12th pass and graduate in Engineering from a recognized college or university in India. Still you would be preferred if you have good academic record of over 60% marks or even over distinction marks over 75%.
Also you should have the best score in GATE and a very high rank and score. You also have to apply for the NTPC prior to you sit for GATE. The notification comes out in the month of December every year.

This year GATE is over, so you have to fill in for next year. Make sure you fall within the age limits which are 21-28 years.

Hope this helps
All the best
Regards
Ranjeet
