Re: Is there any relaxation in NET exam for students who have done their PG from distance education

Dear There,

The acronym for NET is National Eligibility test.

No, there is not any relaxation in NET examination for distance mode or regular mode study.

NET examination is conducted UGC(University Grants Commission) twice every year in the months of June and December.

NET examination is conducted for these two posts:-

* JRF(Junior Research Fellowship).

* Lectureship.

The eligibility critera required for the nEt examination are prescribed as below:-

* Completion of post-graduation with 55% marks in any track from any accredited university.

* Age limit:- 20-28 yrs - JRF.
No age limit - Lectureship.

* Age relaxation:- 5 yrs for OBC and SC/ST contenders.

* 50% marks required for SC/ST contenders.

* Nationality:- Indian.

There is no relaxation based on whether you have completed post graduation through distance education or the regular mode. Whatever relaxation is offered in the National Eligibility Test is for reserve category students.

Its not just National Eligibility Test but in all entrance exams across India there is no relaxation for the students who have completed courses through distance education. Therefore you will not be getting any relaxation for NET.

The NET is conducted by the University Grants Commission that offers relaxation only to reserve category as per the guidelines of government of India. Don't expect anything more than that.

Therefore if you belong to reserve category, only then expect to get relaxation otherwise you will have to meet the criteria for general category student. I am mentioning the criteria below.

Eligibility

1. The candidate should have at least master degree.

2. At least 55 percent marks in the master degree.

3. The requirement is 50 percent for SC/ST due to relaxation offered.

4. Final year students can also appear for the exam.

5. But must submit their degree in 2 years time once they have cleared NET.

6. Your NET subject should be related to PG course.

7. There is no limit on appearences for all category students.

Age Limit

1. If you have applied NET for JRF then you should not be older than 28 years.

2. But under the relaxation scheme the age limit becomes 31 years for OBC.

3. Similarly it becomes 33 years for SC and ST.

4. There is no upper age limit for lecturer job.
