Re: What should I do after passing B.Tech in civil engineering?

There are some good job opportunities in the government sector for Civil Engineers. I would say that you should apply for the job. For most jobs even government sectors, B.Tech degree is enough. Even if you completed M.Tech, there will be almost same jobs on offering for you.

In the government sector there are Public Sector Undertakings that have plenty of jobs for the Civil Engineers. At the same time you can apply for the job in various government departments by appearing in entrance exam called Indian Engineering Service (IES).

Public Sector Undertaking

The PSUs have plenty of jobs for Civil Engineers. There are various Public Sector Companies that are associated with work that requires Civil Engieering graduates. They select the candidates through entrance exam in which you are first require to appear for written test and then a personal interview.

However not all companies conduct written test. Some have lately dropped it in favor of GATE entrance exam. They will ask for your GATE score therefore please ensure that you do have appeared for GATE entrance exam before applying.

Eligibility

1. You should be citizen of India.

2. B.Tech/B.E. degree from a recognized college.

3. At least 60 percent marks in graduation.

4. There should be no pending backlogs.

5. The age limit is 21 to 30 years.

6. OBC are eligible for 3 years relaxation.

7. SC/ST are eligible for 5 years relaxation.

List of PSU

Bridge & Roof Ltd

DMRC

VIZAG STEEL

BSNL

IOCL

HEC

MECON Ltd

SJVNL

NALCO

Indian Engineering Service (IES)

The other option as I mentioned earlier is Indian Engineering Service. It is a annual exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. Being a Civil Engineer you are eligible to appear for this exam.

The jobs are offered in various government departments. These jobs are reputed which is why thousands of students apply for them. There are very few jobs therefore you will have to face tough competition. Some of the government departments in which jobs are offered are:

Indian Railway Service of Engineers.

Central Engineering Service.

Indian Defence Service of Engineers (Civil Engineering Posts).

Indian Ordance Factories Services

Eligibility

1. Only Indian citizens can apply.

2. A valid B.Tech degree.

3. There is no percentage criteria.

4. Final year students can also apply.

5. The age limit is 21 to 30 years.

6. There is 3 years relaxation for OBC.

7. Five years relaxation is given for SC/ST.

You can try for higher studies or pursue career according to your interest. GATE or IES exam will help you to have a rewarding job. M.Tech, MBA, M.S, M.E, etc are the common higher study options available. M.Tech can be pursued with specialization in Hydraulics Engineering, Structural Engineering, etc. Operations, IT, etc are the common subjects selected for MBA by B.Tech graduates.
