Re: How to prepare for GATE after doing 3rd year B.Tech in computer science

Is it difficult for an E.C.E student to get through GATE, considering the difficulty level the subjects?
I'm in my second year of B.Tech E.C.E. Should I start preparing from now on? If so, how?

dear,
GATE stands for graduate aptitude test in engineering.

gate exam is conducted by iit's
for applying gate exam you have to apply after be graduation and also when you are in final year

there is no age limit and there is no restriction on no. of attempts

--there are 65 questions --all are objective type--there is also negative marking

maximum marks 100 -- you have to attain 65 marks or more to get admission in iit's colleges

you should hire good coaching for this

Re: How to prepare for GATE after doing 3rd year B.Tech in computer science

GATE is the entrance exam conducted by IISc and the IITs on the behalf of HRD Ministry. Candidates who wish to pursue for M.Tech after completing B.Tech course are required to appear in GATE Exam.

The requirement to appear in GATE entrance exam is B.Tech/M.Sc/MCA degree. Your performance in the GATE entrance exam would ultimately decide which college would give you admission. A good GATE score can make you candidate for admission in IIT as well.

One thing to understand is that GATE is very difficult exam due to high level of competition. Since more than 400,000 candidates appear for the GATE entrance exam, the competition level is quite high. Although I recommend taking coaching classes for the GATE exam but since you want to prepare on your own here are some tips.

1. First thing you should understand is that to appear in GATE, B.Tech course marks are irrelevant. You only need to complete the B.Tech course. It is enough to make you eligible for the GATE exam. However when applying for the M.Tech in universities, the B.Tech score would be considered. For example to get admission in IIT, you need at least 60 percent marks in B.Tech course.

2. Another thing to remember is that GATE score is only valid for 2 years after which you would require to reappear in the exam.

3. It is always recommended to buy or download previous years question papers, if possible with the solutions. These papers would play a very important role in preparations.

4. Not all subjects get equal marks in the GATE exam. Some subjects are given priorty over the others. Therefore it is important that you find out about these subjects and give them priority.

5. For example in the GATE exam for the Computer Science around 15 to 20 percent is from Mathematics followed by Programming and Data Structures, then Theory of computation, OS and in the end digital logic.

6. Don't put additional strain on yourself thus give realistic time for preparing each subject.

7. GATE exam consists total of 65 questions of 100 marks max. The questions that are related to Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude generally carry most importance.

8. What I mean is quite simple, out of 100 marks, 30 are on questions related to the Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude. The remaining 70 marks are on questions related to your engineering subjects.

9. There are questions in GATE exam that are linked with each other. In such case you would have to first solve the previous question to find answer of current question.

10. One should not forget that there is negative marking in the GATE exam therefore you should be extra careful. However there is no negative marking for the numerical type questions in the GATE exam.

11. However you should be careful with other questions. 1/3 mark could be deducted for each 1 mark question while 2/3 could be deducted for giving wrong answer of 2 marks question.

In the end I would recommend taking mock tests available online to prepare yourself better for the GATE exam. One should regularly take mock tests for GATE to see your preparations.

Hi...
First of all you have taken a very good decision to start preparing yourself for GATE exam frim now..It is very good of you..
First of all you have to clear your concepts in your department subject..
Read well and carefully..each and every words from a good book..
Study in regular basis..
You dont need to go any institution for coaching..
Buy a guide book of Gate exam of GK Publications..
Dont try to cover 100%of the syllabus...
try to cover 50% syllabus(as you are a average student)..this will be enough for you..

3-4 months of serious study can make you clear the GATE exam..
thank you..
best of luck for your exam..
