Such courses are Diploma in Applied Science or Deck Watchkeeper. It provides the Cadet Pre-sea Training as well as onboard training of 24 Months. The Cadets learn to load ships, store cargo, handle gear, stationary rigging, and running gear, and learns ship stability, ship maneuvering and ship management and perform a variety of operations and maintenance tasks to preserve the painted surface of the ship. |

In Merchant Navy after completion of class 10, you can join as deck crew and engine crew after doing the Deck Cadet Course spanning for 3 Months. The cadet needs to score minimum 40 per cent in class 10 with English as one of the major subjects. You need to complete the 12th standard with PCM subjects. To join the Merchant Navy you should crack the NDA exam. NDA stands for National Defense Academy. This exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission two times in a year. NDA - I NDA - II NDA has three wings: Navy Indian Army Indian Air force Eligibility Criteria: Candidate should origin of India. Candidate should pass the 12th standard from recognized state board of India. Percentage not required for this exam. PCM subjects are compulsory for the Navy & Airforce. Your age limit should be between 16.5 to 19 years. No upper age relaxation for other categories. Only unmarried male candidates are eligible for the Merchant Navy. Girls are not eligible for the Merchant Navy. Selection Process: Written Test Interview Medical Test all the best!!!!!!!!! |

For any kind of job in Merchant Navy like Deck Cadet, you must be at least 12th Pass in subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. This is the basic qualification that you will need. My advice is that continue with your studies and complete 12th. Hopefully you have taken science stream in 11th. Students of other streams have no opportunities in the Merchant Navy. Even after completing 12th you will not get good salary jobs in Merchant navy. Although the salary of Deck Cadet is also somewhere 15,000 to 30,000 but its the officer level guys that gets the best salary packages and additional perks. If you want six digit salary then basic qualification of 12th would not be enough. You will have to consider graduation course. The options would be Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science and B.Tech in Marine Engineering. One of the two qualifications can get you officer level job in Engine, Navigation and Deck department. Eligibility. 1. 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Maths 2. Your age should be 20 years. 3. Age limit for SC/ST is relaxed to 25 years. 4. Only unmarried candidates are eligible for jobs in Merchant Navy. 5. Like mentioned earlier, B.Tech in Marine Engineering or B.Sc in nautical science are the course for you. Direct Entry 1. 10+2 candidates with PCM are eligible for Deck Cadets job. 2. B.tech candidates in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Technology can also apply for direct jobs. Salary The salary varies from Rs 12,000 per month to 8 Lakh per month. The officer level jobs are the high paying jobs. You can target these jobs by pursuing B.Tech or B.Sc. The additional perks also depends on jobs. |
