Re: What to write NET and what is the qualification or it?

NET stands for the Nationa Eligibility Test. This is the national level entrance exam by University Grants Commission. You should appear for this exam only if wish to apply for Junior Research Fellowship and College Lectureship.

NET is bi-yearly entrance exam for central government colleges. Which means that after clearing NET you will be given lectureship job in central government colleges only. This will not include colleges funded by the state governments.

The states are responsible for conducting its own entrance exam. It is called State Eligibility Test. All the states have to conduct SET exam to select candidates for lectureship. Those who do not conduct SET have to rely on National Eligibility Test to select the candidates.

In the National Eligibility Test there are 3 written tests. These tests are related to the subject that you have chosen for the exam. You can not pick any subject that you like. It depends on the post graduation course that you have completed. Which means that if you completed M.Com then the subject will be Commerce while for MCA graduates the subject will be Computer Science and Applications.

NET Eligibility

1. Nationality: Indian

2. Qualification: Post graduation, from UGC recognized college.

3. Marks: 55 percent are required.

4. Relaxation: 5% for SC/ST while there isn't any for OBC.

5. During the final year of post graduation, you can appear for NET.

6. But do so if you are sure to meet percentage criteria and can submit degree in 2 years.

7. Subject: Depends on post graduation course.

8. Age Limit: 28 years is the limit for JRF.

9. But there is 3 years relaxation for OBC.

10. While 5 years relaxation for SC/ST.

11. There is no upper age limit for lectureship.
