Re: Is it possible to do MBBS course after completion of BSc Nursing?

Dear Smita,

Yes its completely possible to pursue the MBBS Course after the completion of B.Sc Nursing.

But in my opinion its completely a rough and waste thinking as not a single student will want to destroy his/her 4 years which has been spent in doing the B.Sc nursing if he/she had plans to go for the MBBS Course.

The Acronym "MBBS" stands for bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. This is a years course so if you want to go for the MBBS Course after B.Sc Nursing , it means that there is no value of the years that you spent for B.sc Nursing and also you are ready to spend more years in order to complete MBBS.

The Best option for you is you should go for M.Sc in Nursing instead of going for another under-Graduate Course.

As after completion of M.Sc Nursing which will take another years , you can set yourself as a Nurse.

This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query.Hope the information will help you to the extent you want.

Re: Is it possible to do MBBS course after completion of BSc Nursing?

It is definitely possible to do MBBS course upon successfully completing B.Sc Nursing. But I will not be recommending this course to you. I think it would be better if you apply for the M.Sc Nursing.

Lets see facts. Firstly if you go for the MBBS then the B.Sc Nursing degree would be irrelevant. At the end of the day you can either work as Nurse or the doctor. You can not do the both.

This means that you will make the B.Sc Nursing degree irrelevant and the hard work done in last four years will go down the drain.

Are you prepared to spend another 6 years studying? You have already spent 4 years on the B.Sc Nursing course and now another 6 years in MBBS. It would be better to do M.Sc Nursing.

Having completed Nursing course won't give you any advantage when applying for the MBBS course. You will have to go through the entrance exam just like any other candidate. Besides the course will also be different.

There is no lateral entry in MBBS which a lot of candidates think that would be given to them if they have completed Nursing degree. Like I said earlier the two courses are completing different. The lateral entry MBBS course is not valid in India.

If you decided to go for one then it would not be recognized by the Medical Council of India. Even if you have completed the course outside India.

At this point in time you should consider applying for job. There are various Public Sector Undertakings that hires Nurses and also offer promotion on regular basis. Then there are government hospitals across the country. In addition you can also apply for the job in private hospitals as well.
