The Central Government of India classifies some of its citizens based on their social condition as Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (OBC). The OBC list presented by the commission is dynamic (castes and communities can be added or removed) and will change from time to time depending on social, educational and economic factors. For example, the OBCs are entitled to 27% reservations in public sector employment and higher education. In the constitution, OBCs are described as "socially and educationally backward classes", and government is enjoined to ensure their social and educational development. Until 1985, the affairs of Backward Classes were looked after by the Backward Classes Cell (BCC) in the Ministry of Home Affairs. With the creation of a separate Ministry of Welfare in 1985 (renamed as Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on 25 May 1998) the matters relating to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Minorities were transferred to the new ministry.[1] The Backward Classes Division in the ministry looks after the policy, planning and implementation of programmes relating to social and economic empowerment of OBCs. It also looks after matters relating to two institutions set up for the welfare of OBCs: National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC) and the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC). |

Re: What is the full form of OBC? Dear Friend, OBC stands for Other Backward Class. OBC is divided in two parts Creamy layers and Non Creamy layers. Candidate whose family annual income is less than 4.5 lakh per year comes under Non Creamy layers and whose family income is over 4.5 lakh comes in Creamy layer. Creamy layers candidate are considered as General category candidate. Thanks |

Backward class people is a collective term, used by the Government of India, for castes which are educationally and socially disadvantaged. a).Candidates belonging to this category enjoys relaxations in different types of government recruitment . b).There is upper age relaxations in age and number of attempts for the various entrance examinations for jon in the government sector or non govt sector. c). Reservation percentage for OBC catetgory as per Government of India is 27%. In the constitution, OBCs are described as "socially and educationally backward classes", and government is enjoined to ensure their social and educational development. |

obc stands for other backward classes obc students get 27% reserved seats in universities or in jobs, obc students are allowed relaxation of generally 3 years in most of the govt exam as well as they are provided more chances for passing these govt exams than general students the cut off marks for obc students are lesser than general candidates. here i am attaching central list of castes which comes under obc list in India and the other famous obc is , oriental bank of commerce, hope this clears your dilemma |

OBC stands for Other Back Wardclasses. In India caste are divided into four categories one of them is OBC. 1. General, 2. OBC, 3. SC, 4. ST. For OBC category 27% reservation is provided for any government jobs.  |

In India casts are divided into various classes like. # GENERAL # OBC # SC # ST # OC In our nation reservation is provided for different casts students. seats in college admissions or other government jobs are reserved for different country students. In India 59% of seats are for general category candidates and other 50% seats are reserved for other casts like OBC , SC/ST candidate. A general category students cannot take place of SC/ST/OBC candidates but a SC/ST/OBC candidates can take place of general category candidate. @ BEST OF LUCK @ |

OBC candidates are reserved category candidates and can avail reservations. Reservations are usually offered during recruitment process, in percentage of marks obtained etc. These candidates are provided with 3 year age relaxation in most of the government recruitments. thanks |
