General study: HISTORY-NCERT 11th, 12th standard ancient,medieval history(satish chandra) and modern history(bipin chandra). GEOGRAPHY-11th and 12 th physical geography and human geography . ECONOMY-INDIAN ECONOMY by Ramesh singh (Tata Mcgrath publication) will be enough. INDIAN POLITY:INDIAN POLITY by Laximikant. CURRENT AFFAIRS:Chronicle or Wizard will be good or YEAR BOOK. Apptitude:CSAT Books by Arihant will be better. |

Hi For the preparation of the IAS preliminary paper, you need to be well up to date of the current affairs and all the events that are being related to the science and technology, economics, and geography. Therefore it is considered to read ncert books of history, geography and economics till class 12th. In addition to this, reading the Hindu newspaper is of great help. Moreover get an year book and read it daily. For aptitude purpose, solve as many questions as you can from quantitative aptitude by r.s.agarwal. Dear Friend The preliminary stage of civil services examinations consists of two papers having weightage of 200 marks each with duration two hours. First of all let me tell you about the pattern which is as below:  The list of best books for the preliminary exam is as below:   Note: Try to go through the previous papers as much as possible as it will give you an idea about the questions which are asked in the examinations. Sometimes some of the questions are repeated also. For current affairs ,try to be updated by listening to news channels,reading newspapers and magazines.
